New York Knicks, NBA to Make an Announcement Today

James Wrabel, Jr.May 2, 2012

According to Craig Carton—morning co-host on the Boomer & Carton show on WFAN 660 AM in New York City—both the New York Knicks and the NBA will make an announcement today at 3 p.m.

He told the station's midday show hosts, Evan Roberts and Joe Benigno, that the news came to him via his NBA sources.

SNY's The Knicks Blog has also picked up the story. The announcement is to take place at Madison Square Garden's training facility.

It comes at a curious time, as the franchise is reeling after two straight playoff losses to the Miami Heat in their first-round matchup that included Amar'e Stoudemire injuring his hand after punching a glass-encased fire extinguisher.

Could the announcement have anything to do with punishment for the Knicks power forward?

Or could it have to do with Tyson Chandler being named Defensive Player of the Year?

Think about it, the Knicks could try and spin the negativity and panic currently surrounding them by giving praise to Chandler for an outstanding defensive season.

It's certainly better than discussing how New York has lost 14-straight postseason games.

Whatever the reason, we'll all know by 3 p.m. today.

Stay tuned...
