Arsenal FC Transfer News: Why Clint Dempsey Would Be a Great Fit
The Gunners currently sit in the third position, ahead of Tottenham and Chelsea. Although the team had a poor start to the season, they rose to the occasion and become one of the best teams in the league. While they have only managed to nab two out of a possible nine in the past three outings, they still manage to stay ahead of Tottenham and Chelsea, who are breathing down Arsene Wenger's neck.
With the season coming to a close and transfer news and rumors flying, another summer transfer window is upon us. While Arsenal are linked to many star players, including German international Lukas Podolski and Belgian Eden Hazard, Arsenal would have better luck obtaining a different player.
Clint Dempsey, a USA international and Fulham superstar, has been linked to Arsenal for a summer transfer window move, according to the Daily Mail. The midfielder has had his breakout season this year, scoring 16 league goals. He has grown as a player and teammate while on Fulham, yet the rising star should go to a better team.
As a midfield playmaker, Dempsey could partner with Mikel Arteta on the attack. Dempsey has shown his capabilities as an attacking midfielder. He could play on the wing and send the ball in for the cross, as he's clocked in six assists on the year.
While he is usually placed on the left or right for Fulham and the US International team, he has been more of a threat on goal when placed near his target. His goals against Egypt and Spain came immediately after he was moved forward.
Jack Wilshere was supposed to save Arsenal's midfield. Instead, he became injured and sat this season out. Arteta has done a fantastic job of handling Arsenal's midfield, yet with Dempsey, it would be much easier to do. The two could form a valuable relationship and become one of the strongest partnerships in the league.
"Deuce" Dempsey would be an amazing addition to Arsenal's midfield. Hopefully, the Gunners will pick up him and Podolski to reinforce their bench. If they can have a successful summer transfer window, the beginning of next year's season will be much different.
