Private Indianapolis Colts Workout Would Be Waste of Robert Griffin's Time

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

Robert Griffin III has turned down the chance to work out for the Indianapolis Colts privately and that's the right move.

The Baylor quarterback has been so good throughout the draft process that doing yet another workout could only hurt his stock. He is highly unlikely to be the No. 1 overall pick anyway, so working out for the Colts would seem to be a complete waste of time.

This story is interesting because about a week ago the Colts decided not to have Griffin in for a workout. Now the Colts have done an about-face and are asking to have him in, but the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner has turned the team down.

It makes sense that Griffin would turn the Colts down. Indianapolis has been locked in to Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck for months now and the team apparently has expressed interest in Griffin at the last minute. The Baylor product has been prepared to head to the Washington Redskins with the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft for a while now, he has nothing to prove to the Colts.

Griffin has been so impressive throughout the draft process that even the Redskins aren't asking for a private workout with him. That means Washington has seen all they need to see through the combine and the quarterback's pro day.

We all know where the top two quarterbacks will land, so there is no point in Griffin going to Indianapolis for another workout. If the Colts had shown any interest in selecting him earlier in the process, maybe the Baylor quarterback would have been more open to a workout. But just three weeks before the draft it seems like a waste of everyone's time.

Griffin knows the Colts aren't going to take him with the first pick in the draft, so going through a private workout with the team would be pointless. He's making the right decision by turning it down.
