WWE WrestleMania 28: Was the Hell in a Cell Match the Best Match of the Night?

Billed as the "End of an Era" match, the grueling match under the menacing Hell in a Cell structure was without a doubt one of the best matches of the 28th edition of WrestleMania.

The match, officially announced on the February 20, 2012, episode of Monday Night Raw, lacked the hype of the Rock versus John Cena match, which was announced last year after WrestleMania 27 but nonetheless managed to steal the hearts of what until that point had been a very unenthusiastic Miami crowd.

A dominant Triple H took control of the early parts of the match. He used his signature sledgehammer on the Undertaker, threatening what until that point had been a streak of 19 WrestleMania victories. The match was filled with multiple spots from both competitors, included an interchange of pedigrees and tombstone pile drivers (Triple H's and the Undertaker's respective famed finishing maneuvers). 

Adding to the match's tensions was the inclusion of guest referee Shawn Michaels, promoted as Triple H's "best friend." It was Michaels, who carried much of the match's narrative tension, bursting to tears during several points in the match. 

Also of note was the narration of famed announcer Jim Ross; his return to ringside marked his first appearance in WWE programming since the November 14, 2011, episode of Raw when, after losing a series of challenges against heel commentator Michael Cole, Ross lost his position on the WWE roster. 

The match concluded with a victorious Undertaker, gaining the so-called "Dead Man" an astonishing streak of 20 consecutive undefeated WrestleMania matches. After the match, Michaels, Triple H and the Undertaker embraced in a hug, ending what not only was one of the best matches of the night, but perhaps one of the best matches of all time.
