Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Yann M'Vila Would Welcome an Offer from Arsenal

Matthew SnyderJun 7, 2018

Invited to appear on the noteworthy Canal Football Club (aired by French TV station Canal+) for their Sunday night program, Stade Rennais midfielder Yann M'Vila dropped a not-so-subtle hint about where he may be playing his football in a few months' time.

M'Vila is out of contract in summer 2015 after signing a one-year extension last summer, but he has been involved in near-incessant transfer speculation since last June, with a move to Arsenal having first been proposed then.

With a move away from Ligue 1 action looking increasingly likely, the question has now turned to "where" M'Vila will find himself playing come next fall.

Tom Williams reported on Twitter that the 21-year-old French international (18 caps) revealed that he would welcome an overture by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to bring him to the English Premier League outfit.

As M'Vila put it succinctly, "If it's [Wenger] who asks you and who wants you, of course that changes things."

Rennes are likely aware that M'Vila's future—like so many of the top French players—lies elsewhere from l'Hexagon. Thus, they will be looking for adequate compensation when he leaves.

If he does move from Rennes this summer, a price tag of £25 million does not look to be outside the realm of possibility. Should Wenger move for him, that would break the club's transfer record.

Real Madrid are one of a number of the top clubs seeking his signature, but M'vila, who figures to start in central midfield for France at the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, said that a crucial component in his eventual decision will be playing time.

After all, lack of playing time might jeopardize future involvement with Les Bleus, something that M'Vila is keen to avoid.

Wenger is expected to make sweeping changes to the wage structure at the club, with several players currently out of favor or on loan likely to leave.

If Wenger does let those players go, some £20 million could be made available to him to strengthen the side.

Add that to the near-£50 million Wenger is supposed to be granted in transfer funds this summer, and Arsenal have some serious cash to splash.

It remains to be seen whether M'Vila will be one of those players to be brought in.
