Well to be fair, many people knew who Tavares was. Moulson has earned a reputation as Tavares' sidekick, though.
People may argue that PA Parenteau should be in this article, and I understand. But Moulson and Tavares have been alongside each other on the ice since day one. And they've been producing together since day one.
This is the duo's third season together. Both of them played their first full seasons in 2009-10. Tavares had 24 goals and 30 assists, and Moulson had 30 goals and 18 assists.
Tavares was expected to produce, and Moulson was just there as a support player since he knew Tavares prior to the season. But little did Garth Snow know he'd be creating one of the league's deadliest tandems.
In the second season, Tavares and Moulson both improved. Tavares scored 29 goals and had 38 assists. Moulson had 31 goals and 22 assists.
And yet again, this season, both are having career years. With six games yet to be played, Moulson has 34 goals and 30 assists, and Tavares has 31 goals and 44 assists.
In almost three seasons together, the two have combined for a total of 361 points. Give or take, that's about 240 games.
When people think of the Islanders offense, they often think of John Tavares and Matt Moulson.
And both are still relatively young. How much more will they improve over time?
Former Dallas Star great and soon to be Hall of Famer Mike Modano told me on Twitter that "I think they're one of the top tandems in the league and will be for awhile.. They'll only get better."
Coming from a guy like Mike Modano says a lot about how legit this tandem is. Look for Tavares and Moulson to be a great tandem for years to come, as Modano said.
Expect the duo to create very interesting hockey for Isles fans for years to come.
