WWE WrestleMania 28: Why Jericho-Punk Has a Better Build Than Rock-Cena
WrestleMania XXVIII is fast approaching, wrestling fans and the Internet Wrestling Community have drawn a line in the sand on which match they are eager to see: CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho or John Cena vs. The Rock.
For the past year, wrestling fans have witnessed the feud between John Cena and The Rock evolve, but a large majority of those fans have not been impressed on the overall build of that feud.
Rock and Cena have had their war of words on Twitter, YouTube and had numerous face-to-face confrontations, which left a sour taste in most wrestling fans' mouths.
Since Chris Jericho's return to the WWE in January 2012, his initial goal was to once again become WWE Champion and that means going through CM Punk.
Even though their feud has not been as nearly as long as The Rock and John Cena's, the build for the Jericho-Punk match has been much more effective.
Albeit there have been some humorous segments between The Rock and John Cena, they pale in comparison to the great heel psychology that Chris Jericho has shown thus far.
Jericho stepped into the closet of CM Punk and dragged out the skeletons of why Punk lives the Straight-Edge lifestyle, because of his father's alcoholism. Jericho knew what would get under the skin of Punk, and that is how you get over as an effective heel.
Chris Jericho and CM Punk have one main goal, to prove who is the “Best in the World” and the icing on the cake is the WWE Championship.
Plus, they despise each other, and it didn't have to be done over a one-year period. That is another reason this has been a better feud and a better build overall than the Rock-Cena build.
Considering that The Rock vs. John Cena is being billed as the biggest match in WWE history, and considering that they have been feuding since WrestleMania XXVIII, the overall build for this match has not been as it should be.
Because The Rock and John Cena are the more “bankable” superstars, CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho for the WWE Championship may be pushed to the opening match of WrestleMania XXVIII, according to PW Insider.
So instead of “Rock” Concerts and rapping, Rock and Cena should just get down to brass tacks, go nose to nose and get serious.
Throw out the gimmicks from 2004, the mom jokes from 1992 and just get back to the main goal of the match: One guy is going to kick the crap out of the other guy at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania XXVIII.
It remains to be seen which match is going to steal the show at the “Super Bowl” of professional wrestling, Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk or The Rock vs. John Cena.
It also remains to be seen if The Rock vs. John Cena will go down as the biggest match in WrestleMania history, but rest assured that without a doubt, these two matches will be talked about for years to come.
