WWE News: Omitting Money in the Bank from Wrestlemania an All-Around Bad Move

Michael DixonJun 4, 2018

The Money in the Bank ladder match belongs at Wrestlemania, not at its own pay-per-view event.

For that reason, it is extremely discouraging that the WWE is going in the exact opposite direction, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer.

"

The Money in the Bank match is officially off WrestleMania this year and back as the main of the 7/15 PPV. That show also has been moved from Las Vegas to Phoenix.

With the possible exception of the city change for the July PPV, absolutely no good comes from this. This is a match that belongs on the Wrestlemania card. It doesn't need its own event. The WWE changing its mind on both fronts is more than a little confusing.

Since Wrestlemania is right around the corner, let's take a look at this from the card's perspective first.

In the Money in the Bank match, you have an easy way to get up to eight wrestlers on the card, all in the span of a normal match. That is never a bad thing. The WWE has done a great job developing some of its newer talent and these guys all belong on the card.

Take a look at the current Wrestlemania card, via the WWE's official website:

John Cena vs. The Rock
Triple H vs. The Undertaker
Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

Santino Marella, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Big Show, The Great Khali, The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth were all in one of the two title matches at the Elimination Chamber last month.

None of them are in a match right now.

On that same note, Mark Henry, Kane, Jack Swagger, Beth Phoenix, Kharma, the rest of the divas division, as well as whatever payoff we're going to get from the feud between Teddy Long and John Lauranitis is missing from the card. That doesn't even count injured stars like Rey Mysterio, Christian, nor does it factor in a possible novelty match often seen at Wrestlemania.

Keep in mind, I didn't even mention one tag-team or up and coming superstar, and we often see both get a match at Wrestlemania.

Grabbing six of those superstars and putting them in a Money in the Bank match is a good way to get all of your stars involved. A standard Wrestlemania will feature between eight and 10 matches. If you start to pair those superstars off, it doesn't add up.

Right now, you have three part-time stars (at best) in The Rock, Triple H and The Undertaker on the card. That isn't a complaint, they belong; but so does everyone else. On top of that, the Wrestlemania ring entrances from Cena, The Rock, The Undertaker and Triple H combined could easily equal the time needed for two matches.

Furthermore, the WWE does not need a Money in the Bank PPV. That is a great specialty match best left as a once-in-a-year clash at the greatest event of them all.

In the prior two MITB events, we've seen two MITB matches. That is simply overkill for one event. You need to have the right superstars for such a match. If you're having one match at Wrestlemania, it works. If we're talking about two matches at the same event, totaling 12 stars, it doesn't look quite as strong.

This match is a great way to get some of your biggest names on the Wrestlemania card. Taking that away and giving it to us twice in July makes no sense.
