2012 NFL Combine Results: Matt Kalil Continues to Impress with Workouts

Saturday's workouts at the NFL combine continued to assure teams everywhere that USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil is for real and deserving of being selected anywhere from No. 2 to No. 5 in the NFL draft in April.

Kalil is a lock for the top offensive lineman in the draft, and Saturday's workouts proved it even more emphatically.

After finishing in the top 10 in the bench press, Kalil managed top-five numbers among offensive linemen by running a 4.96 in the 40-yard dash, convincing scouts at the combine that he can be the real deal in the NFL.  

The 6'6", 305-pound offensive lineman reportedly added 20 pounds to his physique since the end of the college season, and some were unsure as to how his game would react to the extra bulk.  The impressive numbers today only further brushed those doubts aside, making it clear that he can adapt to any and all situations.

The big key for Kalil was the agility, which enabled him to not allow a sack last season at USC.  The extra weight gain made him stronger, but did not touch his speed and quickness at the line of scrimmage, disproving that theory.

With every day at the NFL combine, Kalil is making his case as a sure thing in the NFL.

Through the first four days of the combine, there is not much wrong to say about Kalil, which can only be a good thing, as the combine seems to warrant particular criticism to the players, deserving or not.  Kalil continues to have nothing but good things said about him day after day, solidifying a strong hold on a top-five pick in the NFL draft.

We knew about his moderate athleticism and decent strength.  What we did not know was that he is stronger than we thought and more athletic than first envisioned. 

Mock drafts have Kalil most likely headed to the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 3 overall pick, with the Robert Griffin III saga probably ending before that.
