WWE News: Trish Stratus to Wrestle Beth Phoenix at WrestleMania 28?

Trish Stratus is often considered to be the greatest Diva in WWE history, but she hasn’t competed full-time since 2006, and other Divas have been looking to replace her as the best woman wrestler around. 

One Diva who has stepped up big-time since Stratus has retired is current WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, who many consider to be the best active female wrestler on the planet. 

Beth is undoubtedly the best of her time and Trish the best of hers, and if both women have their way, we could see them meet in a clash of two different generations at WrestleMania 28.

During an interview with SportsVibe.uk, former WWE Diva Trish Stratus teased a possible match with Divas champion Beth Phoenix at WrestleMania 28. Stratus, who has been going back and forth with Phoenix on Twitter, had this to say about a possible match: 

“Beth was saying that she was the most dominant champion, so I thought I would just let her know that title is already taken.” 

“As for a match between Beth and myself at WrestleMania that is an excellent proposition and I think the fans would love that. I’ve actually had the opportunity to tangle up with Beth Phoenix a couple of times and I think that she is amazing in the ring and I would love to kick her ass actually.” 

Just last month, Trish Stratus wrote the following message on Twitter in response to Beth Phoenix claiming to be the most dominant woman wrestling champion in history: 

“@TheBethPhoenix should choose her words wisely when it comes to being the most dominant champion…”

Some are speculating that this Twitter war between Beth and Trish is just the two Divas teasing a match that a lot of wrestling fans want to see, but as evidenced by the current feud between CM Punk and Chris Jericho, you can never really tell when Twitter beef is worked or legitimate. 

In this case, I’m leaning toward this being part of a storyline that could lead to an epic WrestleMania match between the two. 

Stratus competed at last year’s WrestleMania and proved that she could still really go in the ring, and she’s never had the opportunity to face Beth one-on-one. This is a match that people want to see and one that would really draw. 

I’m all for seeing Beth vs. Trish at 'Mania, if and only if Kharma isn’t ready to be back full-time by then. This isn’t to say that I think Kharma’s a better wrestler, but I do not want the WWE to get in the bad habit of relying too much on names from the past. 

The two top matches at WrestleMania 28 already primarily feature older stars—The Rock, Triple H, The Undertaker and even Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee—so bringing in Trish for another major match is only going to take away from today’s full-time stars. 

I want to see Beth vs. Trish just as much as anybody, but not at the expense of the WWE’s future.
