#LUNDSANITY Sweeps the Globe as New York Rangers Blank the Boston Bruins 3-0
It is quite clear that #LINSANITY had appeared to taken over the world and New York City early on with his brilliance, and his clutch game-winner against the Toronto Raptors solidified that.
However, the NHL's best goaltender made Twitter explode tonight when he shut out the Boston Bruins, 3-0, making 42 saves in the process. The Rangers are now easily the best team in the Eastern Conference, as the Blueshirts hold a dominating nine-point lead over the second-place Boston Bruins.
Lundqvist for far too long has not received the credit he truly deserves, but tonight was an amazing night for the NHL and the Rangers.
#LUNDSANITY and #HenrikLundqvist were as high as No. 1 in New York City, No. 1 in the United States and No. 2 and No. 3 respectively worldwide. The hashtag was started by some diehard Ranger fans on Twitter and was popular enough for NHL.com to catch on. At first, the headline read "Blankman" for a description of Lundqvist's dominating on-ice performance.
After a few minutes on a slowed Twitter interface and some massive trending topics, the headline was changed and #LUNDSANITY took on a mind of it's own.
- ...what already...it's #Lundsanity
Henrik Lundqvist is arguably playing the best hockey of his career, and now, the world is taking notice. With a record of 27-11-4 with seven shutouts and a GAA of 1.77 and a .941 save percentage, he is easily the early favorite to take home the Vezina Trophy.
Lundqvist could also garner some real support for a Hart Trophy campaign, but it is too early to call. Tonight was an amazing night for hockey and the NHL.
It is not very often that a single player can receive so much acclaim and support that Twitter explodes with multiple trending topics and hashtags. The Rangers continue to show why they are the beasts of the East, and Lundqvist will likely keep driving the #LUNDSANITY train into the postseason.
The Rangers have picked up 17 of a possible 20 points in their last 10 games, and they are on pace to finish with 119 points overall. The team is really kicking it into high gear and should quench the misnomer that they need to make a splash at the trade deadline.
