Luis Suarez Video: Watch Liverpool Star Snub Patrice Evra's Pre-Game Handshake
Liverpool forward Luis Suarez refused to shake the hand of Manchester United left back Patrice Evra in the two clubs' normal pre-game hand shakes before Saturday's Premier League match at Old Trafford.
Suarez was banned for eight matches in December by the FA because he was found guilty of racially abusing Evra during a league match between the two clubs at Anfield back in October.
Evra was not happy that Suarez refused to shake his hand, and grabbed Suarez's arm as the Liverpool star walked past him. The Frenchman had to be talked to by assistant referee Howard Webb and the match referee Phil Dowd.
Suarez was wrong to not shake hands with Evra, and there's no place for that garbage in football or any other sport, but when United center back Rio Ferdinand refused to shake Suarez's hand, he really embarrassed himself and his team.
Manchester United is a better club than that, and as a player who is a leader and often captains the squad, Ferdinand should be ashamed of himself because he went down to Suarez's level. Ferdinand should have been the bigger man and shook Suarez's hand.
Don't get me wrong, Suarez was unsportsmanlike and rude toward Evra by not shaking his hand, but Ferdinand cannot get caught up in Suarez's actions. You wouldn't see Ryan Giggs refuse to shake anyone's hand.
According to BBC's George Riley, Sky Sports is reporting that Evra tried to talk to Suarez in the tunnel during half time, but it did not go down well.
As if this rivalry didn't need any more intensity, this Evra/Suarez drama is not going away any time soon.
