Giants vs. 49ers Video: Watch Lawrence Tynes Kick Giants into Super Bowl XLVI
Lawrence Tynes’ first order of business this offseason will be to buy a Kyle Williams Fathead.
Thanks to the San Francisco 49ers’ careless return ace, Tynes had the opportunity to send the New York Giants to the Super Bowl with an overtime kick and he didn’t waste it. New York’s new hero nailed it and the lights went out in Candlestick Park.
Sure, the field goal attempt was only from 31 yards out, the holder Steve Weatherford deserves as much credit, if not more for his ability to handle that nearly botched snap. But execution in such a pressure situation is never guaranteed. Right Billy Cundiff?
The Baltimore Ravens’ scapegoat missed a 32-yard field goal just hours before Tynes lined up for the most important kick he’s made all season long. Cundiff’s choke-job kept the Ravens from sending the game into overtime against the New England Patriots. And that’s who the Giants will get another crack at.
Super Bowl XLII, the Giants knocked off the undefeated Patriots 17-14. 19-0 novels were tossed in the recycling bin. The ’72 Dolphins danced around the dominators that failed to finish through the line.
Tom Brady and company were forced to wait four long years for such a chance at revenge. This year, the circumstances are different, but the matchup will be hotter than ever thanks to the fact that it’s a rematch. Randy Moss, Michael Strahan, David Tyree and Asante Samuel are gone, but Brady vs. Eli Manning is back and this time around, New York won’t be historic underdogs.
