WWE Raw: Analyzing the Debut of Brodus "Funkasaurus" Clay
After weeks of video packages and weeks of delays we finally got the debut of Brodus Clay on last night's Monday Night RAW, although it was not what fans were expecting.
Instead of the ruthless monster we expected to see from the video packages, we got something reminiscent of Flash Funk, The Godfather and Rikishi all rolled into one.
Clay was introduced by Justin Roberts as hailing from Planet Funk and calling himself "The Funkasaurus." Clay was not only brought out to upbeat funky music, but he completed the gimmick with two dancers in tight catsuits.
As he danced in the ring, he looked off to someone at ringside and yelled, "I bet you didn't see that coming," and he was right.
Clay himself was dressed in a red track suit and bucket hat during his entrance and his trademark singlet when he wrestled. The most interesting part about all of this was how Clay carried himself.
He seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself, and who wouldn't. He is making his debut on national television after weeks of anticipation with two beautiful women by his side.
During the match, Clay kept a light attitude as he trash-talked his opponent throughout the whole ordeal with funny catchphrases. The announcers could not help but laugh along with everyone else.
The fans in attendance seemed to take to Clay after the initial shock of what they had just seen had worn off. Once we saw just what was in store for Clay, it was hard not to like the guy right away.
He went all-out for this gimmick and gave it everything he had. I admire Clay for taking what he has been put through in stride and coming out of it with a good attitude.
On another interesting note, the two women accompanying Clay were former NXT runner-up Naomi and former Tough Enough contestant Ariane Andrew, you know, the girl who Stone Cold ripped apart for saying her favorite match was Melina vs. Alicia Fox and got eliminated in the first week.
What did you think of Brodus Clay's wacky debut, did he shock you?
