Manchester United Transfer Rumours: United and Wayne Rooney Respond to Rumours

Friday even, the Independent's Saturday front page was prematurely leaked online containing a headline suggesting that Wayne Rooney could be leaving Old Trafford in the near future.

Both the club and player have been quick to react and have released statements on the article before it has even hit the shelves.

Manutd.com has issued the following statement:

Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have been made aware of the theme of an article in tomorrow's Independent newspaper. We have not seen the detail but can assure all United fans that the Manager and the Club are committed to Wayne Rooney and Wayne is committed to the Manager and the Club. The player and the Manager have always had and retain the utmost respect for each other and look forward to working together in the coming seasons. Any suggestion that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are to part company is complete nonsense.

Wayne Rooney responded to the matter via his Twitter account with the following:

The manager and I have no issues and anyone who says different don't know what they are talking about. The Independent are talking absolute rubbish, my future is with Manchester United and the club and I are totally committed to each other.

"

With both the club and player adamant that there are no problems between the two parties, you'd have to think that it is all pure speculation.

But you know what they say about smoke and fire. This is certainly a story which many of us will be keeping our eyes on.
