Tunisia vs. Japan Live World Cup 2026 Updates, Scores and Highlights

After a draw in their opening match against the Netherlands, Japan stormed back in their second game with a convincing 4-0 win over Tunisia. 

The Samurai Blue started the game on the front foot, immediately taking control of possession, enforcing their tactical will on Tunisia with ease.

Led by a potent front line of Ayase Ueda, Daichi Kamada, and Junya Ito, Japan did well to make Tunisia uncomfortable, with slick interplay between the half spaces and using width to create overloads on the flanks.

Japan would strike first, thanks to Kamada's fourth-minute goal. After that? It looked nearly impossible for Tunisia to mount a comeback.

Despite some slight tactical tweaking by manager Herve Renard, the Tunsians were ultimately the inferior side and had no answer for Japan's attack. 

Japan would continue to attack with a free-flowing style that any neutral would enjoy. A brace from Ueada and a late-game sealing strike from Ito would earn a much-needed win for the four-time Asian Cup winners. 

As for Tunisia, their World Cup hopes and dreams are essentially over after failing to get a single win in the group stage so far. 

With the win, as it stands, Japan sits second in Group F.

Both teams are set to finish off the group stage on June 25th, with Japan taking on Sweden in what should be a highly consequential match, and Tunisia playing the Netherlands.

Japan is flying in Monterrey, taking a commanding 2-0 lead into halftime against Tunisia. 

After a thrilling but disappointing draw against the Netherlands in their opening match, the Samurai Blue made no mistake in their second, scoring quickly with Daichi Kamada netting their first goal in the fourth minute. 

Under new manager, Hervé Renard, Tunisia looked to get a result in their second group game. However, Japan was far too strong in their tactics and combination play for the Tunisians to get anything going. 

Lining up in a 3-4-2-1, Japan did well to use the flanks, working outside in, all while exploiting the half spaces in Tunisia's defensive third. 

Thanks to their tactical discipline and fluidity, Japan extended their lead in the 31st minute, with a nicely taken goal by Ayase Ueda to further sink the hearts of Tunisians.

Despite the scoreline, football is unpredictable! With 45 minutes to go, Tunisia could still very well get a result in this match.

Curacao's goalkeeper made timely saves and history on Saturday night vs. Ecuador.

The smallest nation ever to qualify for a World Cup is now the smallest ever to earn a point at the tournament after an historic performance goalkeeper Eloy Room. 

The former Columbus Crew No. 1 made 15 saves -- the most ever in a 90-minute World Cup match -- and The Blue Wave became the second tournament debutant to take a point, this time off an Ecuador side that was both wasteful and unlucky.

American fans can relax that Tim Howard's overall World Cup record of 16 saves in a match -- compiled in a 120-minute loss to Belgium in the 2014 round of 16 -- still stands. And Germany clinched the top spot in Group E with a game to spare with this result, following Mexico in Group A and the USA in Group D.

Room was exceptional. And CONCACAF fans have seen this before, when he played similarly during a 2019 run to the Gold Cup semifinals, a performance that helped the Dutch-born 'keeper earn an MLS contract.

But let's not let a very poor Ecuador side off the hook here. While La Tri certainly put efforts on target, they weren't particularly imaginative ones. Other than an early denial of Enner Valencia, most of Room's interventions were routine.

There's a reason this squad has only scored one goal (and that came from the penalty spot) in their last seven competitive fixtures. If they can't shock Germany in their final match, they may go down as one of the most disappointing South American World Cup entrants in recent memory.

As expected, Ecuador has had the majority of the ball and the chances, but credit manager Dick Advocaat's Caribbean squad for staying in this one and posing a realistic enough threat on the counter.

This is the proverbial game where the longer Curaçao stay in it, the longer they'll believe they have a chance at pulling off something special. It helps that they have a solid goalkeeper in Eloy Room, who is having a strong half.

As for Ecuador, it's amazing that this team went 19 unbeaten before their loss to the Ivory Coast to open the tournament. Enner Valencia has been a fabulous servant to his country, but the fact that he's still option No. 1 at age 36 up front shows this is a side that is very limited in attack.

While a potential upset was on the cards in the first half, Germany fought back to earn a 2-1 win against the Ivory Coast.

The match started slowly, with both teams taking the time to figure each other out tactically.

Though many fans and pundits would pick Germany to have a convincing, emphatic result, given their 7-1 showing against Curacao, the Ivory Coast made it difficult.

The Ivorians played a brand of football, particularly in the Toronto heat, that made it difficult for Germany to track their attacking players.

The front three of Yan Diomande, Ange-Yoan Bonny, and Amad Diallo did well to combine and get in behind the German defense on the flanks on multiple occasions. Supported by a solid midfield featuring Franck Kessie and Ibrahim Sangare, Les Elephants struck first in the 30th minute, thanks to Kessie finishing off a chaotic cross by Diomande.

However, for the amount of hope and grit displayed by the Ivorians, it was no match for Germany in the end. 

Due to some tactical shifting by Julian Nagelsmann in the second half, the Germans erased the deficit by bringing on Nadiem Amiri and Deniz Undav.

The duo would first combine on the equalizer, then Undav would go on to score the game-winner after a gorgeous pass in by Felix Nmecha in the 94th minute. 

With this win, Germany has officially topped Group E and is cruising to the Round of 32.

The Ivory Coast will have a chance to book their ticket to the next round when they take on Curacao on June 25.

We're all knotted at 1-1 with two minutes of action to play.

In what would be a shock result if it holds, the Ivory Coast currently has an impressive 1-0 lead over Germany at halftime. 

After a strong showing in their opening matches against Curacao, where they won by a convincing margin of 7-1, the Germans looked prepared to establish similar dominance versus the Ivory Coast.

However, Les Elephants had a different idea.

Thanks to a mixture of a strong attack led by the terrifying combination of Ange Yoan Bonny and Yann Diomande, and a solid defensive showing so far,  the Ivory Coast managed to get the Germans on their heels, with Franck Kessie netting a shock goal in the 30th minute.

While Germany held the majority of possession (60% to 40%) and had a few clear-cut chances, including some that were offside, the Ivorian defense held strong, despite a barrage of attacks led by Leroy Sane, Kai Havertz, and Jamal Musiala.

Although it's still far too early to see if this result holds, it would certainly be one of the more memorable upsets in World Cup history if the Ivorians can pull this off.

The Netherlands now sit at the top of Group F after a convincing 5-1 win over Sweden.

From the opening whistle, the Dutch never took their foot off the gas, with Brian Brobbey scoring in the 5th and 17th minute. 

Though Sweden would continue to push, particularly late in the first half, besides an offside call from a Gabriel Gudmundsson header, they struggled to create anything meaningful. 

Entering the second half, however, while the Swedes looked a bit more convincing offensively, the story remained the same for the Dutch. 

The Netherlands continued its offensive intensity, with Cody Gakpo scoring two goals in the span of seven minutes to put the Dutch up four. 

Sweden would have flashes of promise in the second 45 as well. The substitutions of Anthony Elanga and Lucas Bergvall would give them some hope, with Elanga netting a goal in the 59th minute, which would ultimately end up being Sweden's lone strike in the match. 

Although the Swedes would make a late push, the Dutch would kill off any hope, with a late goal by Crysencio Summerville in the 89th minute. 

Now sitting second in Group F, the Swedes need a result against Japan to get to the next round.

As for the Netherlands, their five-goal performance sees them top Group F, with their final group game against Tunisia on June 25th.

Oranje attack relentless as Gakpo finishes from in close.

Could this be the tournament that the Netherlands finally breaks the "dark horse" label and becomes a legitimate contender? 

Their first-half performance against Sweden may have given La Oranje some hope that they would reach the World Cup Final once again. 

The team's barnstorming first half, in which they scored two well-worked goals thanks to Brian Brobbey and had the majority of the possession, could give Dutch fans something to cheer as they look towards the Round of 32. 

Led by an attack with Brobbey, Cody Gakpo, and Donyell Malen and a midfield of Frenkie de Jong and Tijjani Reijnders pulling the strings, the Dutch played an exciting brand of football which saw the Ronald Koeman-led side flood the box, attack with pace, and crash the Swedish penalty area with ruthless efficiency. 

They ended the first half with four shots on target and two big chances created. 

Coupled with a solid defense featuring Mickey van de Ven and Virgil van Dijk,  the first 45 couldn't have gone better for the Dutch.

For Sweden, a promising 5-1 thumping against Tunisia in their opening match gave them some hope they could make their match against the Netherlands competitive.

While going down two goals early all but sucked the energy out of the team, the Swedes did manage to scrap back some semblance of cohesion, nearly nabbing a goal back through Gabriel Gudmundsson late in the first before it was disallowed for being offside. 

With both teams looking to punch their ticket into the Round of 32, the second half is sure to be a good one.
