Norwich City 'closing in' on Bruno Alves - MFW YouTubeCity are closing in on a loan with purchase option for Cruzeiro left-sided defender Bruno Alves. Reports from ESPN Brazil state that the Brazilian U20 international is heading to England in the next few days for a medical, ahead of becoming the Canaries' first signing of the 2026/27 season.

MONDAY MARDLE: The case for the defence - Norwich City-styleLast week, I took a look at Ben Knapper and hopefully provided a balanced view on his recent form. This week, I'm moving onto the pitch and starting at the back. I'll work my way forward over the next few weeks, looking at where, in my opinion, we need to strengthen and where we need to trim.

Kenny McLean: What is Norwich's Plan BNorwich City's player of the season did not make the trip to Hull last Saturday due to a back injury. He finished the season having played in 42 of the 46 league games. Norwich lost three out of the four games in which he did not feature.

"We're only making plans for Nigel" ... that Ruairi McConville ... and other NCFC stuffIf you're an editor of a football site, international breaks are a nightmare. The lack of productivity this week on MFW tells the story. Sorry. Little did I expect, though, that our nearest and dearest, with whom we lock horns in less than a fortnight, would provide the week's talking point, one that usurped the World Cup Playoff semifinals and England's international draw with Uruguay.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•7mo

Creative conundrums: What is Norwich's best front four?Philippe Clement has deployed a 4-2-3-1 system to great effect during the four months he has been in charge at Norwich. While the defence and midfield are arguably nailed down, the attacking positions are far from being settled and have seen plenty of rotation in recent weeks.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•8mo

VIDEO: 'ARE NORWICH ON THE UP?' NODGE SPOTLIGHTAnother week with three games approaches for City. They take on Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday, and Leicester. But how do we think they'll fare against those sides? Can we get all nine points that are up for grabs? How do we keep having an injury crisis every season?

The elephant in the room - what happens next to Carrow Road? The uproar following the original stadium development announcement was perfectly understandable. Little more than a presentation, consisting of a video, and emails or letters sent to affected fans. Consultation it was not. However, there is nothing to be gained by retracing what happened, or didn't. The whole communication process was a mess.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•11mo

The Smiles Are Back at Carrow Road. The Clement Era Has LiftoffRarely can I recall a final whistle at Carrow Road being greeted with such raw emotion. Not in recent times. Folk visibly moved. Even the odd tear. Those south of the border spent Saturday evening mocking us for getting giddy over a home win over QPR, but who cares.

PETITION: Remove Ben Knapper as Norwich City sporting directorFor over two years, supporters of Norwich City Football Club have watched on with mounting frustration as Ben Knapper, the club's Sporting Director, has overseen a series of disappointing, often baffling, decisions that have led to repeated failures and poor performance on and off the field.

Accounts Show Starkly How Indebted NCFC Is To Norfolk FB HoldingsSomewhat overshadowed by other events this weekend, an important club announcement was made on Friday when the accounts for 2024/25 were published. Several fans made comments regarding the aspirational stuff in the report and Ben Knapper's support of Liam Manning.

Fan Alliance Norwich: An UpdateIn my previous article I mentioned my intention to set up a new supporters' group called Fan Alliance Norwich, and I wanted to provide an update on my progress. I am currently drawing up documentation in collaboration with the Football Supporters Association.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Transitional Purgatory: How Norwich City Lost Its WayIt's 2002. I'm 8 years old. It's my first ever football match. Norwich beat Watford 4-0. A day I will never forget, as I fell head over heels for football and Norwich City. Twenty-three years later, I have witnessed five promotions and six relegations, four league titles, one runners-up, and a playoff final win at Wembley.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

The silence is deafening. NCFC destined to be in perpetual transition? So, 16 years unbeaten in the East Anglian Derby comes to an end, as we knew it would eventually. In fairness, with Ipswich just down from the Premier League, and us, frankly, in a bit of a mess, in all likelihood, we probably knew what was going to happen, and it doesn't feel as bad as I thought it would.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Malaise at Norwich City. Who's to blame, and what's the solution?I'd better start with a disclaimer. The answers - at least any that I can come up with - aren't quite as simple or direct as the questions. But we can try to dissect the issues and reflect on causes - in particular, things which have made the situation worse than it might have been.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Probably the lowest ebb Norwich City has found itself since 2009"We understand there'll be bumps in the road, but our responsibility is to build a team that people can look at and understand what it is we're trying to do. When the time comes, if patience is needed, that will make it easier for people to afford that to us."

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Knapper and Webber fiddle as Norwich City FC burnsIt's not like we didn't see it coming. Still hurts though. But it's not so much the defeat itself that stings; it's the almost inevitable way they folded in the second half, with, after a bright-ish first half, performance levels falling off a cliff. As did the 16-year/14-game record.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

The bigger picture at NCFC ... and it's not pretty!Since Daniel Farke was sacked in 2021, Norwich City FC has been drifting. Nearly four years on, four different managers have walked through the Carrow Road doors - Dean Smith, David Wagner, Johannes Hoff Thorup, and now Liam Manning - yet the only thing the club has mastered is the art of standing still.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Yes, Carrow Road is a 'library'. What do they expect? As the Barclay End clock ticked onto 61 minutes, my River End neighbour turned to me. "We're not scoring tonight, are we". It wasn't a question. It was un-Andrew-like (yes, that's his name). He's generally the voice of reason, not prone to snap judgments, and, unlike me, thinks before he speaks, even in the heat of Championship battle.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Carrow Road will not tolerate excuses forever...When Liam Manning was unveiled there was a palpable sense of renewal around Carrow Road. Finally, someone who will understand how important this club is to the city. After all Manning was born in Norwich, so who better to grasp what the Canaries mean to their supporters?

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Canaries turn to play roles of hapless extras in Hollywood docu-soapAs we enter what's now been coined 'Game Week 6' with a 100 per cent record of home defeats this season, what's needed is a period of calm. To reflect that with a new manager, a new system, and a lot of new signings, it's going to take a while to gel.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

The NCFC keepers' union - 2025/26 styleIf you've not already seen it, I heartily recommend taking a look at the Club's recent behind-the-scenes YouTube video entitled, 'How Vlad made THAT save at the weekend'.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

MONDAY MARDLE: An NCFC week for the ages ... not all for the right reasonsSo, how was your week? It's easy to forget that, in among all the angst and drama, City played two games and now go into the international break for a couple of weeks. Usually, fans' breath is baited, waiting to hear that our star internationals are returning injury-free.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

More self-inflicted Carrow Road pain for Manning's menOuch. It wasn't just the second consecutive 2-1 home defeat that stung; it was also knowing the online backlash would be irrational and over-the-top. The opening day defeat by Millwall had prepped us. We were not to be disappointed.

Americans Abroad: Can Sargent Afford to Stay at Norwich?USMNT forward doesn't have much left to prove in the Championship. Will he stay anyway?

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Canaries aiming to avoid an Oxford as a new Norwich City era dawnsHere we go again. Once more unto the breach and all that... For football fans, especially those who were feeling a little bruised and let down at the end of last season (like us), the summer is lovely. No Saturday afternoon and midweek heartache from which you have to recover within a couple of days before you go through it all again.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Warning: NCFC record on splashing cash on big price tag signings is... mixedAnother week closer to the new season. A brace of friendlies and final confirmation that Borja Sainz is no longer a City player. One of those weeks where a lot has happened.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Two friendlies, two 1-1s, and two red cards on a crazy NCFC dayStill, pre-season ambles along, testing the fitness and resolve of the players while giving Liam Manning an early chance to assess what he likes and dislikes from his still-new charges.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

From Norwich school boy to head coach of Norwich City FCSince last weekend, it's been Norfolk's worst-kept secret. And while it's still officially a secret, barring an event of cataclysmic proportions, after what we've been told was an extensive search (although may not have been), we expect Liam Manning to be announced as the man in the next few days.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

VIDEO: How did NCFC suffer another season of underperformance? After a 13th-place finish, instant cup exits and ending up without a manager, the 2024-25 season can only be deemed a disappointment for City. Off the back of our embarrassing play-off exit last campaign, we somehow endured an even worse set of performances from August to May. Were the signings up to scratch?

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

A massive summer ahead for Norwich City's Big ThreeThe overhaul of the Norwich City boardroom is largely complete. The revamp of the club's football management structure is also nearing completion, but I expect there to be more ins and outs within the coaching, fitness and data teams as Ben Knapper further evolves the football side of the operation.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

A positive shift in the mood music as Carrow Road warms to a decent showingAs 0-0 draws go, that was pretty decent. The reaction of the crowd said as much. Following on from the horror of Home Park, I expected a muted, maybe tetchy, Carrow Road, but a positive start to the game with added tempo did the trick.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

VIDEO: Jacob Wright 'Wants To Join' Norwich City PermanentlyJacob Wright could become City's first signing of the 2025-26 season, after he has impressed City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup during his current loan spell. The Pink Un's Connor Southwell reported that the Canaries want to exercise their £2.3m option to buy for the English youth international from his parent club, Manchester City.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

What to become of the NCFC loaners? The last transfer window closed only 46 days ago but recruitment is a never-ending process, with clubs continuously looking to see where they need to prune their squads and where they need to invest.

norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com•1y

Can shell-shocked Canaries regain some pride at Ashton Gate?I am writing this following the Sheffield Wednesday game, so the collective shell shock is still reverberating. Quite how Johannes Hoff Thorup lifts his players before the game with Bristol City is beyond me, but with the television cameras watching, a reaction is demanded. Our opponents, however, are by no means going to make that easy.
