Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Gary Cahill a Done Deal and Top 7 Stories
According to Andre Villas-Boas the Blues are definitely set to be active in the January transfer market as he has made it clear new signings are in the works.
The sale of Fernando Torres looks to finally be a distant rumor, but the exit of Didier Drogba looks more and more near completion.
Oriel Romeu
1 of 8Former Barcelona midfielder Oriel Romeu has impressed both the English and Spanish media during his time at Chelsea. The Catalan club have a buy-back clause in the contract that they are threatening to use in 2013 if Romeu continues to look as good as he has since moving to London.
Romeu's agent Javier Magico Diaz told The Sun:
""Will Romeu return? His dream before leaving was to be a Barcelona player and that still stands. But we cannot ignore the opportunity Chelsea have provided. We'll have to see if it's appropriate for the club and the player to return to Barca. We need to know if he'll keep developing at Chelsea and playing. Maybe it will be more convenient to stay for another year and then return in 2013. Oriol has made a name for himself in the Premier League and is playing regularly. We're committed to the club and we cannot leave them hanging."
"
Talksport also has written that he is wanted back by his former club, but their current midfield situation does not warrant a return move for Barca just yet.
Stevan Jovetic
2 of 8Chelsea have been in the hunt for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, but according to Talksport he has pledged his immediate future to the Viola.
The 22-year-old Montenegrin told this to the press: I'm happy and I was convinced that I would return stronger than I was before. The fans love me here and I'm content."
At this point Chelsea will likely be looking to either prise him away with a major offer that Fiorentina cannot refuse or will have to seek a new striker from another source.
Gary Cahill
3 of 8According to both the Telegraph and the Daily Mirror, Chelsea have agreed to a £7 million transfer fee with Bolton Wanderers for the sale of Gary Cahill in the opening days of January.
Cahill was hotly tracked throughout all of the summer transfer window and through the last day of August, believing he was going to move for a major fee.
However, Chelsea may have won the lottery on him if he can return to top form for the Blues after being a part of the worst defense in the league at Bolton.
Hulk
4 of 8FC Porto's Brazilian striker Hulk has made claim that he wishes to move to Chelsea and continue his career under the leadership of Andre Villas-Boas once again.
The Daily Mirror has suggested that he could be considered for the move, and Andre Villas-Boas has claimed that a striker is on his shopping list in January along with two other signings.
The IB Times also have linked Hulk with a move to London and believe that Chelsea could activate his massive buyout clause in January.
Gregory Van Der Wiel
5 of 8Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas could have Ajax Amsterdam's Gregory van der Wiel in his sights during the January transfer window.
The Dutch right-back could be the solution he is looking for in the long-term view of things, as Jose Bosingwa has good moments that are few and far enough between that he is likely due an exit from Stamford Bridge soon.
Branislav Ivanovic also has had many injury issues as of late, and could become more of a second option behind the young Dutchman if he indeed arrives.
Didier Drogba
6 of 8Ivory Coast international and Chelsea star Didier Drogba looks like he could follow Nicolas Anelka to China after another club has reportedly offered him a major deal, according to The Sun.
Drogba has held unsuccessful contract negotiations with Chelsea and will leave the club in the summer if he does not make the move during January.
The coming window will see him be away at the African Cup of Nations and with the Blues in need of another striker anyways, his sale could only end up helping the club increase their coffers for another purchase.
Isaac Cuenca
7 of 8According to Talksport, Chelsea could be in the hunt for another young Barcelona starlet. Isaac Cuenca has risen to great form in his five appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring four goals in that period of time that included a brace in the Copa del Rey.
The 20-year-old could be the next Oriel Romeu for the Blues, which could tempt manager Andre Villas-Boas to purchase the young attacker to partner with young Daniel Sturridge as the future of the Blues attack.
Conclusion
8 of 8Chelsea have their work cut out for them in the transfer market as the first half of the season has seen them discover many weaknesses that are in need of addressing.
