TCU vs Louisiana Tech: 4 Things We Loved and Hated About the Poinsettia Bowl
The bowl season has just began to get under way, and there have been some quality games so far this year. Teams that you're really not expecting to put on a show, actually show up and keep you entertained in a not-so-interesting matchup.
Last night was the Poinsettia Bowl, which hosted the TCU Horned Frogs from the MWC and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs from the WAC. It was a good game and featured a few things that we liked and disliked.
Here are some of those things that we will remember about this year's Poinsettia Bowl.
Hated: Fashion Statements
1 of 4I understand school spirit, but this is a little bit overboard, don't you think?
We know who's playing and who you play for, we don't have to see the name of your school on the side of your head. And besides, you have a helmet on majority the of the game anyway. We'll only see that ridiculous haircut like two times they put the camera on you.
Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton also had his eye black upside down. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or what, but I still don't understand it.
With all of the uniform changes and fashion trends going on in college football, you have to wonder if players really believe it helps them play better.
It must be the shoes!
Loved: TCU Looks Good Including Casey Pachall
2 of 4While TCU may not have had their most impressive season this year, they are extremely young but very talented. They will head into the Big 12 conference next, season and I really like their chances to succeed.
Sophomore quarterback Casey Pachall didn't have his best game, as he only completed 52 percent of his passes. But he played well when it mattered in the fourth quarter. He threw for 77 yards in the fourth quarter, including a 42-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Skye Dawson. It showed that this young quarterback can come through in the clutch and is a solid option moving forward.
The majority of this team is young and will be a force next season in their new home. You have to like competitive football teams.
Hated: Slow Game Filled with Penalties
3 of 4I enjoy a football game that is called fair and correctly, but it gets out of hand when there are flags thrown for every little thing. This game had a total of 13 penalties, some questionable, which really ended up slowing down the game.
Also, on the drive where Luke Shivers ran for a touchdown, there where at least two booth reviews that really slowed down the pace.
I understand we want to get the calls right, but at the same time, we don't want a game to last all night when we have work in the morning.
Loved: It Was a Much Better Matchup Than Expected
4 of 4Let's be honest, there aren't too many early bowl matchups that we have circled when the schedule is released. A lot of the teams we either never watch or just aren't that exciting.
Nobody really expected Louisiana Tech to keep up with a ranked TCU team, but they did and the game came down to the end.
There was over 400 yards of total offense and a score under five minutes that determined the outcome of the game.
As we prepare for the bigger matchups, all we can ask for is a decent game in the earlier ones. And that's what we got in the Poinsettia Bowl.
