2011 Bowl Schedule: Alamo Bowl and Non-BCS Games Sure to Destroy the Scoreboard
If you enjoy a great shootout between two teams that have offenses like they are being run by a teenager playing Madden '12, well, you’re in luck, because these three games will be exactly what you are looking for.
Valero Alamo Bowl: Baylor Bears vs. Washington Huskies
This game has two teams that love to play offense, while neglecting to play any defense.
You have a Baylor team that averaged 43 points per game led by Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. While Baylor put up 40-or-more points eight times this year, they also gave up an average of 36 points per game.
For Washington, they bring into the Alamo Bowl an offense that scored 30-or-more points eight times this year. However, they gave up 33 points per game to opposing offenses.
The final score of this game should see both teams pushing the mid-40s.
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl: Nevada Wolf Pack vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles
This game does have two teams that had defenses that allowed less than 30 points per game to opposing offenses. However, when you put two offenses that both scored 30 or more points per game on the field, you have a chance to see a lot of scoring.
Nevada and Southern Miss both ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA in total yards, passing and rushing offense and points scored.
Southern Miss is coming into this game after blowing out Houston in the Conference USA championship game, 49-28. Nevada is entering the Hawaii Bowl after destroying Idaho, 56-3.
Military Bowl, Presented by Northrop Grumman: Toledo Rockets vs. Air Force Falcons
The Military Bowl features two offenses that can run the ball effectively, while gaining a lot of yards on offense.
Toledo finished this year with the eighth-best scoring offense in the NCAA, averaging 42 points per game. They have a deadly rushing offense that ranked 14th in the NCAA, averaging 221 yards per game, and a lethal passing attack that ranked 29th in the NCAA, averaging 272 yards per game.
While the Air Force can score a lot of points and run the ball effectively like Toledo, they cannot throw the ball at all.
The Falcons finished the year with the second best rushing attack in the NCAA, averaging 320 yards per game. However, they finished near the bottom of the NCAA at 113th, averaging 138 yards per game.
Toledo should have no problems in putting up a lot of points in this game. Even if the Rockets shut down Air Force’s passing game, the Falcons will run the ball well, and will put up 30 or more points.
These three games will see all of their final scores somewhere in the 40s to 50s. If you love defense, stay away from these games. However, for those of us who love constant offense, you will want to make sure you watch these three bowl games.
