Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: New Jersey Nets Source Shoots Down Latest Rumors
Well here we go again. Just when the trade talk about Dwight Howard seemed to be dying down—for the moment, at least—they are beginning to heat up again for the Orlando Magic and New Jersey Nets. But don't you believe it, Nets fans!
According to John Ireland of ESPN Radio 710, a trade between the Magic and Nets for the best center in the NBA could go down as early as today. The trade, of course, would involve the Nets sending Brook Lopez and picks to Orlando for Howard.
Ireland also correctly predicted that Lebron James and Chris Bosh were headed to Miami last offseason. That would be impressive if everyone else in the universe didn't think the same.
But haven't we heard this before? It seems that, every week, another source is certain that a trade will happen between the two teams, or even involving a third team, and it doesn't.
In the process, Nets fans continue to be teased at the prospect of having the most dominant center in the game coming to play in Newark, only to be let down every time. So don't let that happen again!
The Magic have no rhyme or reason to deal Howard right away, and if you think otherwise, you neglect two major things:
1. Trading him now would help the Nets improve drastically the entire season, lowering the value of the draft pick they send to Orlando.
2. The NBA All-Star weekend is set to take place in Orlando this season, and the Magic might want to keep Howard around to save face in front of their own fans to avoid an embarrassment at not having any of their players on the all-star team.
To help support my theories, although not specifically, here comes a report that a source with the Nets has said that the latest trade rumors are false. Much like I just stated, the source also believes that the Magic are unlikely to trade Howard before New Year's and could wait until the All-Star break in February.
Don't be surprised if they wait until the new trade deadline in March. The more time they keep Howard from New Jersey, the better their 2012 pick will be.
Just another false rumor that we all fell for again. Mark my words: Howard will become a Net, but as I predicted, don't expect it to happen until mid February or early March.
Until then, don't believe anything until it actually happens!
