Why NY Knicks and Chicago Bulls Time Is Now, Celtics and LA Lakers Time Is over
The NBA as we know it is changing.
If you need proof just look at the past couple of seasons.
Free agency and trades have shaped some teams for the future, while the lack of impact moves may have closed the window on a pair perennially great franchises.
In other words, the time is now for the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls and for the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, turn the lights out because the party is over.
The Bulls are already there, finishing with the best record in the Eastern Conference a season ago and having the reigning MVP in Derrick Rose.
They are young and talented and their roster is deep and loaded.
Speaking of loaded, the Knicks are definitely that. With the additions of Tyson Chandler, Baron Davis and others, the Knicks have their deepest and most talented roster in over a decade. Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony will prove to be an explosive duo that will be near impossible to stop.
They will be much improved defensively and no doubt will contend for one of the top spots in the east.
The Bulls and Knicks aren't just built to win now, they've been built to contend for quite some time in the near future.
Looking at the Celtics and Lakers, it's getting near time to take a step back and rebuild.
They've had their run for the better parts of the last decade and now they've been passed up by a pair of younger, more talented teams.
Boston's "Big 3" is no longer among the top trios in the league and the kindest way to say it is that they are getting old. They lack the size and toughness they once had and the depth on the current roster isn't great.
They didn't improve in the offseason, while the teams around them did.
The same can be said for the Lakers, who if anything got worse in the offseason.
Boston and Los Angeles can still boast their superstars, but they aren't young and they aren't deep enough to sustain anything.
They may both have one more run left in them, but if that window isn't closed, it's shutting fast. Moves need to be made to get both franchises back on top.
Those are moves that the Knicks and Bulls have made and why now is their time, and both the Celtics and Lakers need to take a back seat to them.
