Norwich City vs. Wolverhampton: 5 Reasons Canaries Should Defeat Wolves

James KentDec 19, 2011

Norwich City take on Wolverhampton in the English Premier League tomorrow night. With Wolves sitting just above the relegation zone and Norwich in the top half of the table, the Canaries will be hoping to make it seven points from three games with another victory.

Wolves will be keen to avoid defeat, knowing that another loss will put them deeper in trouble.

These Are the Sort of Games That Need To Be Won

1 of 5

A lot has been said about the mini-league and how Norwich City need to target certain games. The team has made a very good start to life in the Premier League, but they need to keep picking up points.

In order for the Canaries to sustain their place in the Premier League it's important to keep their distance from teams like Wolves. The best way to do that is to win the games when they come along.

What is absolutely essential is Norwich don't lose this game and allow the gap to be closed up.

Good Form Against Bad Form

A quick look at the form book would suggest that there will only be one winner when the two sides meet on Tuesday night.

Wolves are in danger of suffering a run of at least three consecutive losses for the second time this season. In contrast, Norwich have taken seven points from the last 12 available.

Norwich though will have to improve on their recent record away at Wolves, if they hope to take all three points. The Canaries have failed to win in their last 11 trips to Wolves.

Wolves Are Yet To Beat a Promoted Team

3 of 5

Wolves don't have the best of records against the newly promoted teams so far this season. They have faced both QPR and Swansea at home this season. The results were 2-2 against Swansea and a 3-0 defeat against QPR.

These are certainly results that can give the Canaries confidence going into the game, particularly when considered alongside the poor run Wolves are currently on.

Plenty of Goals in This Norwich Team

4 of 5

This Norwich City side has plenty of goals in it and only the top five Premier League teams have scored more. So far this season, the Canaries have only failed to score on two occasions.

This is also a fixture that usually creates plenty of goals. Last time the two sides met in the Championship 13 goals were shared in two games.

The biggest goal threat from the Wolves side is likely to be Steven Fletcher, who has scored six times this season. Norwich though have a number of players with an eye for goal.

Better Defence and Goal Difference

5 of 5

Norwich City haven't exactly been solid at the back this season, but they can take comfort from the fact that Wolves have conceded more goals. The Canaries have looked more solid in recent games following the return to fitness of Zak Whitbread.

This and the ease of which the team can score goals combined with excellent team spirit bodes well for this game and the rest of the season.

With Norwich facing Spurs in their next game, a win against Wolves would take some pressure off that game.
