Chicago Bulls Rumors: Chicago Should Start Rip Hamilton over Ronnie Brewer

Austin GreenDec 18, 2011

It's still uncertain who will start at shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls this season, but Tom Thibodeau should go with the newly-acquired Richard Hamilton.

No disrespect to Ronnie Brewer, but the Bulls need an infusion of offense into the starting lineup, and only Hamilton can provide it.

The 12-year veteran compliments Derrick Rose perfectly. He's a master at getting open, fluidly moving through traffic and utilizing screens to perfection.

He's got an automatic mid-range jumper and is great at finding the open man.

Hamilton also provides Chicago with the championship experience necessary to take the next step.

He's played in 120 playoff games, averaging 20.6 points on 44.1 percent shooting. More importantly, he joins Brian Scalabrine as the only Bulls players with championship rings.

Brewer is also a capable starter, but he's better suited to a backup role. Last year he came off the bench in 80 games and was an integral part of the famed "Bench Mob."

Luckily for Chicago, neither guy seems to care about starting.

"At the end of the day, we're all in it to win, win games," Brewer said. "If it means him starting is going to give us a better chance to win the championship, I'm all about it."

Hamilton echoed that statement.

"If they want me to play 20 minutes or 30 minutes, I’ll do that. I just want to win," he said.

For Chicago, all that really matters is the playoffs. They have 66 games to tinker with the rotation and decide who is the best fit in the starting lineup.

But when the postseason rolls around, Hamilton's offense will be needed. The Bulls should start him right now so he can establish a connection with Rose.
