Ohio State Football Recruiting: Noah Spence Proves Urban Meyer Was Perfect Hire

5-star defensive end Noah Spence committing to Ohio State proves that Urban Meyer was the perfect hire at a time when Ohio State was in desperate need of a recruiting mastermind who could help them weather the sanctions stemming from the Jim Tressel era.

Mike Farrell of Rivals.com reports that he got a confirmation text from Spence's father that Spence had committed to Ohio State.

Meyer's ability to haul in such a great talent in light of all that Ohio State has been through is remarkable. Don't expect this to be the last high-profile commit that buys into Meyer either. The recruiting is given an immediate lift with the presence of such a proven coach and the Penn State scandal makes recruiting that much easier for Meyer.

Spence made news when he tweeted this upon hearing about the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

All of a sudden, free tattoos and autographed memorabilia seem like non-factors. With Meyer at the helm, the Buckeyes are going to weather the storm much like USC has with Lane Kiffin in charge.

This signing proves that they are still a recruiting juggernaut and that Meyer has the potential to not only match the production of the previous regime, but to build upon it.

ESPN had the Buckeyes' 2012 recruiting class ranked at No. 15 on December 14th. Landing a Top Five recruit will only add to their already stacked crop of incoming talent.

As is typical with recruiting, the rich will only get richer. Undecided recruits with Ohio State on their radar will be more inclined to commit with a stud like Spence buying in.

This is a home run for Ohio State and the Meyer signing will continue to pay dividends as recruits come from near and far to play under such a prestigious coach.
