Norwich City: 5 Reasons Why the Canaries Can Win Against Everton

James KentDec 16, 2011

Norwich City take on Everton this weekend and will be looking to build on their excellent victory against Newcastle last week. A second successive win can help the Canaries consolidate their position in the top half of the Premier League table.

Manager Paul Lambert will certainly be confident of getting a result and, with that in mind, I have created this slideshow to preview the game and detail why Norwich can win.

The Toffees Don't Have the Best Home Record

1 of 5

A game like this between two teams close together is usually hard to call. When offering tips on this sort of game, the bookies would usually side with the home team. However, Everton don't have the sort of home record that would inspire too much confidence.

Their current record reads at two wins, one draw and four defeats. Paul Lambert has proved in his relatively short time as Norwich City manager that he goes into away games looking for wins and not draws.

So far, that fearless approach his only produced one away win but the Canaries have received plaudits for their performances against Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea - even if that run of games only produced one point.

Some people may defend Everton's home record by saying they have had a number of tough games. However, they would surely have been disappointed to have lost against QPR and Stoke, only drawn against Aston Villa and given the rivalry the defeat against Liverpool would have hurt, as well.

Not an Attack to Fear

2 of 5

Everton have only scored 15 goals in the league this season. In comparison, Norwich have scored 24 Premier League goals.

Everton's problems are heightened by the fact that they are lacking a regular goal-scorer. So far this season the most a single player has scored is just three goals.

Norwich City have spread the goals around the team this season, but crucially the strikers have done the business. Two of the Canaries' strikers have registered six times in the top-flight so far this season.

Norwich Can Gain Inspiration from the Class of '93

3 of 5

Norwich City last won at Goodison Park in September 1993. The result of that day was Everton 1 Norwich 5, Efan Ekoku scored four of the five goals to help the Canaries' to a record away top-flight win.

Same again would go down very nicely, but most Norwich fans would be equally as satisfied with a 1-0 away win. It will certainly be interesting to see how the class of 2011 compares with that of 1993.

The Form Book Appears to Favour Norwich

4 of 5

Norwich are on a decent run of form and have won two of their last three games. The Canaries will be seeking back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since beating Bolton and Sunderland in September.

Everton are in danger of slipping down the table and are currently on a run of seven defeats from their last 10 league games. Everton are also in danger of losing three consecutive games for the second time this season. Losing can become a habit so this is certainly something they will look to avoid.

This Everton Side Is Easier to Beat

5 of 5

Everton have long been thought of as a side that are difficult to beat, but that might be about to change. The start they have made to this season is identical to that of last season in terms of total points. However, a concern may be that they have lost eight games from their fourteen this season, compared with only four last season.

So here's hoping for a Norwich City win. One final note of comfort is Norwich's attack is now the sixth best in the league.
