NBA Rumors: Injury Can't Keep Knicks from Interest in Baron Davis

Michael DixonDec 15, 2011

Baron Davis is the kind of player that will help the Knicks move from a playoff team to a team that can win in the postseason. The fact that he's going to miss some time isn't a real deterrent, as the current roster has already shown that it's capable of taking the Knicks to the postseason.

That's why what Alan Hahn reported on Twitter is so confusing.

If the Knicks were a team that needed a player to make a playoff push, or if this was later in the season, I would understand that completely.

But the first eight to 10 weeks of the season aren't going to be what makes the Knicks' season successful or not. No, that's going to come in the playoffs when they're facing teams like the Celtics, Heat and Bulls

When Davis is healed and ready to play, he'll have the perfect amount of time to get his game into shape for the playoffs.

Davis running the point in a starting lineup that includes Stoudemire and Anthony is nothing short of frightening for opposing teams to come up against. Davis is still capable of running the floor, and Stoudemire is the perfect big man for that. Throw Anthony in the mix, and this team is a nightmare.

On top of that, without a solid point guard, the Knicks don't have the kind of team to beat any of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. With him, they do.

Obviously, there is a lot that needs to happen (or not happen) for the Knicks to have the chance to sign Davis.

But if they get into position to bring him in, it's not only a nice move for the Knicks, it's the best possible move that they can make. This team simply doesn't have the depth in the starting lineup to win the Eastern Conference.

With Davis, they have that chance.

Fans of the Knicks had better hope that the attitude of management doesn't go in line with Stoudemire's. The fact that he would miss most of the season isn't a big deal. Not having a guy like Davis around for the playoffs is.
