Army-Navy, 5 Most Lopsided College Football Rivalries

Rob GoldbergDec 11, 2011

There are some great rivalries in college football, but sometimes there is one team that dominates that rivalry.

Fans get excited for the matchups, but the game starts becoming predictable when the same team wins year after year.

Whether it is an in-state battle, a border war, or just two teams with a lot of history, everyone loves a rivalry. However, some games are less heated than others.

Here are the most lopsided rivalries in college football.

5. Texas A&M vs. Baylor

1 of 5

The Battle of the Brazos is one of the oldest rivalries in football, debuting in 1899. Unfortunately, Baylor has not always been on the same level of Texas A&M.

In 108 contests, the Aggies have won 68 with nine ties. Baylor has won only two games since 1986.

This year, Baylor rose up the rankings to end the season at No. 12. Quarterback Robert Griffin III won the first ever Heisman Trophy for Baylor after an amazing season. Still, Texas A&M destroyed Baylor 55-28.

Even Griffin could not offset Baylor's defensive struggles in the game, and history repeated itself once again.

4. Army vs. Navy

Many will argue that this game is the best rivalry in sports, but that has nothing to do with the product on the field.

Every year, Army faces Navy in a neutral site on the last game of the regular season. It features two military academies that have earned tons of respect from the American public.

Unfortunately, the game itself has been very one-sided in the past decade. Navy has won each meeting in the past 10 years.

The average margin of victory for Navy in that span us 23.7 points per game.

Army has a long way to go to even up this rivalry.

3. UCLA vs. USC

3 of 5

With no professional football team in the city, UCLA and USC battle every year for the title of the best football team in Los Angeles.

In the past, it used to be a quality matchup, but UCLA has not been at the same level of USC in recent years.

Since 1999, the Bruins have only defeated USC once. This year, the Trojans won by a score a 50-0.

The Trojans had a dominant decade under Pete Carroll (although often illegally), and they won most of the games they played, so UCLA should not be too worried about this streak. However, UCLA needs to rebuild to get back to the powerhouse it once was.

2. Michigan vs. Minnesota

4 of 5

Michigan and Minnesota have faced each other 92 times, with the winner of each contest receiving the "Little Brown Jug" as bragging rights.

Unfortunately, this has not been even close to a fair contest.

The Wolverines have defeated the Golden Gophers 67 times, but the domination goes deeper than that. In the last 40 games between these two teams, Minnesota has come on top only three times.

This season, Michigan won 58-0.

It is nice that these teams have a trophy, but this is barely a rivalry.

1. Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State

5 of 5

Oklahoma State had a great season this year, and will face Stanford in the highly anticipated Fiesta Bowl.

However, the Cowboys have historically had a disadvantage against in-state rival Oklahoma.

This year, Oklahoma State snapped a streak of eight-straight wins by the Sooners, but the all-time series record is 82-17-7 in favor of Oklahoma.

It is affectionately called the Bedlam Series, but this has barely been a contest for most of the century as Oklahoma has simply been in a class above Oklahoma State.
