Lakers Rumors: Dwight Howard Will Land in Los Angeles After Requesting Trade

Alex KayDec 11, 2011

Dwight Howard has formally requested to be traded away from the Orlando Magic today and there is no surer thing than him landing on the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to the Associated Press, Howard feels that his time in Florida is over and he needs a change of scenery and must go somewhere he enjoys playing basketball more.

"

I’ve done everything for this city. I don’t think people understand the magnitude of love I have just for this city. It’s beyond basketball. I think people, anybody should understand that. This has just not been a city I enjoy playing basketball in. I love everybody here, that’s why it’s been so tough.’

You know he is going to enjoy playing ball in the City of Angels, following Shaquille O’Neal’s footsteps and becoming the next great big man on a team with a rich history of them.

The Lakers are done trying to get a deal for Chris Paul through and have traded Lamar Odom to Dallas to clear cap room for another marquee superstar. It’s quite obvious that it is Dwight.

L.A. will probably have to take back Hedo Turkoglu’s disgusting, cap-clogging contract to get him, and maybe even give up Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol, but it will be worth it.

The move would give them a legit star in the middle to build around as Kobe Bryant fades into the twilight of his career.

Howard has the personality, and most importantly, the skills required to play at the Staples Center in the purple and gold.

That team wins championships, something Orlando hasn’t been able to, and will be the No. 1 contender this season if they land Superman.

Expect for the GMs of the Magic and Lakers to be in heated negotiations throughout the next few days and possibly weeks as they try to get a deal through before the season starts.

No matter what it takes or how long, there is no way that Dwight is not going to be in a Lakers uniform this season and helping carry the team to another title to kick off a new dynasty.
