Fantasy Football Week 14: Top 5 Players To Help Secure a Playoff Victory
If you have any of the next five players, feel free to start celebrating your victory dance. These guys are all headed towards massive production just in time to lead you through the playoffs.
If you are playing against any of these guys, I suggest pouring over your lineup for the right combination because it's going to take a team effort to beat the big numbers these guys post.
It would also couldn't hurt to start massive amounts of Tebowing.
I've included the player that will be the high-point man at each fantasy position.
Atlanta Falcons' RB Michael Turner
1 of 5The Falcons are going to run Michael Turner until he can't run anymore this week. They will want to take the load off QB Matt Ryan who is coming off a poor performance in last week's loss to the Texans.
Atlanta will also be able to move the ball at will against the Panthers, and their strong defense will be able to slow up the Panthers enough that the Falcons will have a comfortable second half lead. This will allow the birds to stick to the ground and grind out the clock, and all that leads to a big day from Turner.
Carolina will be unable to stop Turner. They are 27th in rushing yards allowed and 25th in yards per carry at 4.6 yards.
Turner enters this game averaging a very solid 4.3 yards per attempt. He will also be relatively fresh as he had just 14 touches last week.
Prediction: 141 yards, two touchdowns
San Diego Chargers' QB Philip Rivers
2 of 5Philip has been more of a Rivulet than a Rivers this year. His production has fallen off the map as he has been a very ordinary fantasy QB.
However, Rivers got on track last week throwing for 294 yards and three touchdowns. He will better those numbers this week against the Bills.
The Bills are 19th in passing yards per game, and it gets even worse for the pass defense the deeper you dig.
They are 22nd in yards allowed per pass attempt and an ominous 26th in passing touchdowns allowed at 1.8 per game.
Rivers has to be licking his chops. Furthering his chances for a huge day is the fact that the Bills are awful in all the wrong places when facing the Chargers. Football Outsiders ranks them 28th in defending opposing No. 1 receivers and 27th against No. 2's.
Philip loves to throw deep to his outside guys Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd. And they are going to be open all day long.
Prediction: 357 passing yards, four TDs
Detroit Lions' WR Calvin Johnson
3 of 5Calvin Johnson has fallen off the cliff since his record-breaking pace to start the season.
He had two touchdowns in each of his first four games. Since then, he has just four TD grabs. In his last four games, he has just one touchdown and has not broken the century mark for yardage.
He is about to put an end to these nasty trends.
The Vikings' pass defense has been horrendous all year. They are banged up and just all around bad.
They are 27th in passing yards and 28th in yards allowed per attempt. They also aren't improving. For the season, they are averaging 7.5 yards allowed per pass attempt. Over their past three games, they have allowed 7.9 yards per pass.
Combine that with the fact that Football Outsiders ranks them 31st in defending opposing No. 1 receivers, and it's clear that Megatron is cruising to a huge day.
Prediction: eight catches, 138 yards, two TDs
San Francisco 49ers' TE Vernon Davis
4 of 5Vernon Davis has been amazingly consistent all season. He will give his numbers a spike in production this week though.
Davis is going against a Cardinals team that has struggled to defend TEs all season. Football Outsiders ranks them 26th guarding opposing TEs. That was evident when these two teams played two weeks ago, and Davis hauled in five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
The 49ers will recognize Cardinals' weakness in this area and make Davis an even bigger part of their game plan.
What will also help his production is that the Cardinals have been excellent against the run as of late. They have allowed just 3.6 yards per carry over their last three games.
This will lead to the run happy 49ers throwing a more than they normally do, and all of that amounts to a big day for Davis.
Prediction: seven catches, 104 yards, two touchdowns
Denver Broncos Defense
5 of 5The Broncos defense was torched last week by the Vikings, but they are ready to bounce back to their dominant ways against a depleted and anemic Bears offense.
The Bears will be without RB Matt Forte for this game, and that's going to put the burden of moving the sticks on the inexperienced and not terribly talented shoulders of Caleb Hanie.
Chicago lost Forte early last week against the Chiefs, and they were only able to total three points and 181 yards of total offense.
The Broncos assault on the Bears offense is going to start with rushing the passer. The Bears are 25th in sacks allowed percentage, and the Broncos are ninth in sack percentage.
If the Bears are going to find the end zone in this one, it's going to have to be on special teams because they are going nowhere against this defense.
Prediction: 175 offensive yards allowed, four sacks, two INTs and six points
