The 7 Ugliest College Football Uniforms This Season
When Maryland took the field for the first time this season, the team's wacky uniforms started a series of debates that's continued all the way through the year. Some people, myself included, loved them. Others had quite the opposite reaction.
Love them or hate them, it got the ball rolling on uniforms we loved and uniforms we hated.
Obviously, the only true thing that matters in college football are wins and losses, and not so much how you look on the field.
However, sporting ugly uniforms only makes bad teams look even worse, and it's just unfortunate when great teams look ugly.
Hey, it can be hard to play good unless you look good. And you're not going to look good wearing any of the uniforms that some of the following schools repped in 2011.
Fair warning: Shield your eyes.
Georgia Bulldogs
1 of 7Way too much red, and going away from the traditional Georgia helmet wasn't right.
The 'Dawgs had one of the most traditional, recognizable helmets in all of college football—not sure how anyone thought changing that would work.
And with the jersey and pants, it's just, well, blah.
Ohio State Buckeyes
2 of 7Along the same lines as Georgia, the Buckeyes went with a different helmet. Needless to say, it didn't work out.
As for the jersey and pants, it's not that there's too much of one thing, but the design is just straight up ugly. For years, Ohio State has made the scarlet and gray look really good, but this is unacceptable.
Maybe Urban Meyer can banish these for good because the old scarlet and gray was great and there was no reason to ever get away from that classic design.
Boise State Broncos
3 of 7As you can tell by the picture, Kellen Moore is sad about having to wear all orange in a home game. Wait, that was actually the game Boise State lost to TCU, so that's probably another reason.
In any event, the Broncos busted out some really sweet unis for their Week 1 game against Georgia.
Well, this is the exact opposite.
Orange pants might work with a white jersey, but that's about it.
North Texas Mean Green
4 of 7I'll be the first to admit that green is my favorite color and am proud to have it as such.
But North Texas went way overboard.
Green is a great color for a school, but trying to blend in with the grass isn't too appealing. It's one thing to go with a green jersey or helmet, but not both.
Add in green pants along with the text on the helmet and it's just awful. Green is a great color, but the Mean Green need to take a look in the mirror and do a self-evaluation.
UNLV Rebels
5 of 7Maybe if UNLV went with something other than words, they could derive attention away from the horrible color combination and use of too much text.
You see "UNLV" on the helmet, shoulder pads and then "Rebels" on the front of the jersey. The black stripes look okay as well as on the facemask.
So, maybe the Rebels should use black more, because the scarlet and gray combo/design they have here makes Ohio State's look bearable.
Virginia Tech Hokies
6 of 7Make no mistake about it, Virginia Tech has some sweet color combinations and designs, but the orange jerseys makes this uni look terrible.
The helmet is iconic and even when they made a change to the white helmets this season, it still looked really awesome. But the orange jersey itself is ugly.
Combine all that with the maroon helmet and the combo is just bad. At least it's not like UNLV where we see text everywhere.
Bowling Green State Falcons
7 of 7If you thought Boise State's all orange was bad, Bowling Green takes orange to a whole new level. Here, much like we saw with North Texas, the Falcons went with one color from top to bottom.
Orange is good in moderation; not in combination with the helmet, jersey and pants. I wouldn't be surprised if the shoes and socks were orange, too. Then again, it appears to be the theme, so why not, right?
That said, at least with the Mean Green, they had white face masks, stripes and text. Here, they went with brown stripes which don't help.
It's OK on the facemask, as that's Bowling Green's usual helmet, but something so plain and non-creative is boring and ugly.
