NBA Rumors: Why Allen Iverson Must Come Back to NBA for Money

Richard LangfordDec 10, 2011

Allen Iverson is going to do everything he can to get back into the NBA this season—he will even practice. Divorce has that kind of effect on people.

Iverson's bank account is now in the judge's hands, and if his ex-wife's recent stories have any validity, then AI is likely on the verge of seeing the money in his account disappear faster than Lindsey Lohan's career.

TMZ is reporting that Allen's ex, Tawana, has filed new divorce documents.

Tawanna just filed new docs in their bitter divorce battle—claiming ever since she filed for divorce  in June, Allen stopped depositing money in their joint bank account ... and then made several large cash withdrawals, including one for $20,000 ... which he spent on diamond jewelry.

Tawanna claims the account was $23,000 in the red at the time she filed the court docs—and she's been unable to pay the bills...or provide for their five kids.

According to Tawanna—who says she gave up her career to be a stay-at-home mom—Allen is worth over $20 million...and refuses to help her out simply out of spite.

"

This ruling on this divorce isn't likely to come anytime soon, but AI must know that the writing is on the wall: He is about to lose millions of dollars.

This leaves Iverson with one last shot at a chance to get back in the NBA. It will be hard enough for him to find a team this year—let alone find one after another year out of the league.

What Kind of Teams Could Use AI

Iverson needs to look towards teams hoping to make playoff runs. There is no need to add Iverson to a squad trying to build for the future.

Iverson is no longer starting material in the NBA. However, in a limited role he could still succeed. Iverson could give some quality minutes to a team that has no scoring punch off of the bench. Teams like the Lakers and Bulls would fit this mold.

Those teams already have an established group of players that will leave the team unaffected by any negative attitude aspects that Iverson may bring with him.
