NBA Rumors: Dwight Howard to Nets May Hit Snag with Tampering Charges
Dwight Howard met Mikhail Prokhorov yesterday according to a series of tweets by Sam Amick.
According to Amick:
"The root of it on the Nets side, according to two sources, is alleged meeting between Dwight and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov on Thursday.
"
In his next tweet he expands:
"The alleged Proky-Dwight meeting, according to source who spoke with the Magic about the situation, is believed to have happened in Miami.
"
Miami? Really? Did it have to be in Miami?!
This NBA offseason is turning into quite the soap opera. First there was the drunk dial, then the Paul trade that wasn't and now the tampering charges by New Jersey.
There are a number of things that spring to mind here. After going out of their way to "protect" the Hornets in blocking the Chris Paul trade, will they now "protect" Orlando from these tampering charges? What will the ramifications against New Jersey be if these things turn out to be true?
Rumors earlier today claim there was a lot of talk about there being a trade for Howard from New Jersey coming soon, possibly even today, at Dwight Howard's request.
However, there have been no offers from the team today according to Chris Mannix of SI.com.
"Howard has not demanded a trade to New Jersey and the Nets have not had direct discussions with Magic about a deal, sources say
"
Were they going to ask for a trade but then held off because of the tampering charges or is Orlando pushing the tampering thing to hold off the potential ask?
At a minimum, the fallout of this is going to be that the Nets aren't likely to be acquiring Howard today. The worst of it might be that they aren't able to grab him at all.
