College Football Awards 2011: Who Got Screwed on Awards Night?

Randy ChambersDec 9, 2011

The main college football award will be presented tomorrow night. Of course that's the Heisman trophy, and there are five worthy candidates that you could make a solid argument for.

But last night all of the other awards where handed out, and while there were a lot of winners who deserved their awards, others did not.

Here are a few candidates that were snubbed in last night's college football awards show.

Maxwell Award: Andrew Luck

1 of 3

Actual Winner: Andrew Luck

Winner It Should Have Been: Robert Griffin III

Okay, can you tell me what's the difference between "College Football Player of the Year" and "Most Outstanding Player?" Sounds like it's the same thing to me.

If that's the case, Robert Griffin III should have won the Maxwell. How does somebody who has less passing yards, touchdowns and a lower completion percentage win this award? Not to mention Luck has thrown more interceptions.

Truth is, Griffin wasn't even a finalist. I don't get it.

I get that Luck has all of the hype and is loved by everybody, but he didn't deserve the award.

Doak Walker Award: Trent Richardson

2 of 3

Actual Winner: Trent Richardson

Winner It Should Have Been: Montee Ball

This award goes to the most 'outstanding' running back.

I don't think it gets more outstanding than the numbers Montee Ball has put up. He's rushed for over 1,700 yards which is second in the country, and he has 32 rushing touchdowns which is the most. In the last five games alone, he's rushed for 907 yards and has 17 total touchdowns.

I love Trent Richardson as much as the next guy, but Montee Ball deserved that award.

Home Depot Award: Les Miles

3 of 3

Actual Winner: Les Miles

Winner It Should Have Been: Bill Snyder

Les Miles won the coach of the year award, and he was deserving but wasn't the most deserving.

Did anybody in the country have Kansas State reaching the Top 10 in the BCS Rankings? The Wildcats were predicted to finish dead last in the Big 12. They ended up going 10-2 and had a chance to reach BCS bowl.

Snyder did more with a lot less.

Sure, Miles went undefeated and reached a berth in the national championship game, but with a loaded squad where half the team will be in the NFL, that's expected.
