Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Billboard Won't Convince Magic and CP3 To Team Up
Somewhere in the Orlando area, a fan has purchased a billboard in a futile attempt to get the Magic to trade for Chris Paul.
David Baumann posted a picture to his Twitter feed of the billboard with a picture of CP3 in a Magic jersey which reads,
"“Orlando, How Nice Would This Be For The Holidays? Otis, Make It Happen!
"
The URL leads to a complementary campaign website to the “StayDwight” movement that is trying to convince superstar center Dwight Howard to re-sign with the Magic.
Otis Smith, the Magic GM the billboard is referencing, is going to have a hell of a hard time trying to make either of those things happen.
Paul is apparently still deciding what to do about his future but it hasn’t been denied that a representative informed the Hornets that the star PG wants to make a move to the New York Knicks.
If that were to happen, he would team up with Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony to form a “Big Three” that would contend against Boston, Miami and Chicago in the East for years to come.
Were Orlando to make a play without getting him to sign an extension, Paul would be running the show for a season with Dwight Howard and then both stars would become free agents, free to leave and sign wherever.
It simply isn’t worth it for the Magic to give up assets to get him with their future looking very bleak as is. They would certainly have to give up valuable, young players and draft picks to take Paul back and it would kill their franchise to lose him and Howard.
The Magic do need to bring a second star in to complement Dwight, but CP3 isn’t realistic. Someone like Deron Williams may be safer to acquire and has a better chance of extending immediately after the deal goes down.
That's one good idea and they should try and get something done soon, before fans keep wasting money on billboards.
