Bowl Games 2011: 5 Bowl Game Spreads You Need to Bet All in on

Randy ChambersDec 5, 2011

The college football regular season is now over, but that doesn't mean the gambling world stops.

The bowl season is now underway, and sports gamblers should be looking for any advantage possible. There are plenty of great matchups and early lines out there to take advantage of.

Here, I help you find the lines that you should bet the house on so you can make the most profit.

Follow these picks and thank me later.

Michigan vs. Virginia Tech

1 of 5

Do you really want to put your money on a Virginia Tech team that got clobbered by Clemson twice this season?

The Hokies haven't beaten a quality team all year, and the only ranked opponent they've beaten was sub-par Georgia Tech. I'll go with the team that has a difference maker in Denard Robinson and a running back in Fitzgerald Toussaint, who has been very hot lately.

The Hokies struggle on offense lately, with Logan Thomas completing under 60 percent of his passes, and against good offenses, the defense struggles.

This game is a pick 'em, so now is the time to jump on the Wolverines.

Stanford vs. Oklahoma State

2 of 5

Oklahoma States defense is ranked 107th in the country out of 120 teams. They're going up against Andrew Luck and company that averages 43 points per game.

You could make a case that the Cowboys force a ton of turnovers but that means that Luck will have to turn the ball over. He's only thrown 21 interceptions out of 1,033 pass attempts. Good luck.

Let's not forget that Oklahoma State will be upset for not playing in the national championship and probably won't be focused heading into this game.

I think Stanford wins straight up, but I'll take the +3.5 that Vegas is giving them.

Washington vs. Baylor

3 of 5

All season long, Vegas has been underestimating the Baylor Bears, and they're doing it once again. The Bears are only 10-point favorites against a Washington team that is ranked 99th in points allowed.

Robert Griffin and company will shred this defense apart and win by at least two touchdowns easily. They've been covering spreads all season long, and this game should really be no different.

Not to mention that the Bears defense has also stepped up lately and is getting stops when needed most.

Houston vs. Penn State

4 of 5

Penn State has a great defense that only allows 15 points per game, but will be going up against a Houston offense that averages 50 points. The Nittany Lions should be able to slow the Cougars attack down, but won't be able to completely stop it.

Case Keenum has scored at least two touchdowns every game, and that may be enough to beat Penn State. The Nittany Lions are absolutely terrible on offense, as they average less than 20 points per game. The passing game is nonexistent and the running game is inconsistent.

I'll take Houston -9 and call it a day.

Iowa vs. Oklahoma

5 of 5

Did anybody see the game against Oklahoma State? That should be good enough reason to run as far away as you can from the Sooners.

Oklahoma is not the same team they were once the season started, and with Broyles and Whaley out for the year, you would expect that. But this offense absolutely struggles to put up points, and the last few weeks, the defense has been shaky to say the least.

Oklahoma will not be inspired to play in this game, and for Iowa, they are thrilled to get a chance to play a team like the Sooners. The Hawkeyes are a balanced team that has kept it close this season against Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan State. They also beat Michigan.

This Iowa team will not roll over, and that's why +16 is way too much to give them.
