2011 Coaches Poll Votes Revealed: 4 Coaches Who Screwed Teams over for BCS Bowls
College coaches trying to cheat? No way!
The college football bowl schedule has already been released and while there are a ton of great matchups, it's interesting to see how the voting went. The coaches poll was recently released and some of the coaches' votes made a couple eyebrows raise.
The coaches poll comprises one-third of the BCS rankings. So, these votes do count in where the teams end up in the final poll. This, of course, would mean that it does play a part in which teams end up making a BCS bowl as an at-large bid.
Here are a few head coaches that tried to pull a fast one and voted unfairly.
You can see how each coach voted for yourself here.
Les Miles
1 of 4Les Miles and his Tigers are good as they went undefeated and are taking part in the national championship.
So, while his team doesn't need help, he decided to help out his former college that he played for and was a graduate assistant at. He voted the Michigan Wolverines No. 8 in the coaches poll while the majority had the Wolverines outside of the Top 10.
He also voted the Michigan State Spartans No. 16 and Kansas State No. 17. Ouch.
Michigan moved up three spots in the BCS rankings and earned a berth in the BCS Sugar Bowl.
Troy Calhoun
2 of 4If you believed that the Oklahoma State Cowboys deserved a shot at the national championship, you can be mad at this guy. That's Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun.
While he isn't the main reason the Cowboys aren't in the national championship, he didn't help by voting Oklahoma State No. 5, which was the lowest of any other coach on the board.
Judging by his resume, he doesn't have any ties to the Big 12 or the SEC, so this vote is very shocking.
Alabama fans should send this guy a fruit basket and a Hallmark card.
Nick Saban
3 of 4Nick Saban is guilty.
The Alabama head coach was going to do anything to try and reach the national championship game—even if that meant voting the Oklahoma State Cowboys No. 4 on the poll. Most coaches had the Cowboys either No. 2 or No. 3.
I get the fact that he's trying to protect his team and wants a rematch with LSU, but are there really three teams better than Oklahoma State?
Gary Pinkel
4 of 4Some will call this a stick to the Big 12 and others will say Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel is just being honest. But he voted the Oklahoma State Cowboys No. 4 in the country behind Stanford. He's one of only six coaches to have them below No. 3.
It's hard to believe that he would try to hurt his own conference but you can listen to his reasoning here.
You be the judge.
Maybe he's trying to create buddies as the Tigers prepare for a move to the SEC?
