College Football 2012: Top 25 Teams That Are Stacked for Next Season

Chris HumphreyDec 4, 2011

While the 2011 college football season hasn’t ended yet, let’s take a look at who will be stacked with talent in 2012 and be the team to beat.

Will LSU duplicate their 2011 undefeated season and make another run at the national championship?

Will Alabama get revenge in 2012 if they lose to the Tigers for the second time this season in the national title game in January?

Can a team outside of the two aforementioned SEC West teams make a run for the national championship and dethrone the SEC’s six-year run as the top dog in college football?

While we’ll have to wait until next September to answer those questions, we can now see the Top Five teams in the Top 25 who will be loaded down with talent as the 2012 season begins next fall.

Texas Longhorns

1 of 5

After another poor season that ended with a 7-5 mark, Texas will be entering the 2012 season with the top recruiting class in the country. The Longhorns will be bringing in five five-star recruits and 11 four-star recruits to help the Burnt Orange reclaim some glory in 2012.

Michigan Wolverines

2 of 5

As Brady Hoke brought the Wolverines back to a BCS game in his first season, Michigan might be able to do more in Hoke’s second year in Ann Arbor as the Maize and Blue will have one five-star recruit and 13 four-star recruits coming into the Big House in 2012.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

3 of 5

After a tough beginning to the second season of the Brian Kelly era in South Bend, the Fighting Irish were able to bounce back to record consecutive eight-win seasons. With a great recruiting class coming in, the Golden Domers might be even better next season.

With another offseason to help Tommy Rees at the quarterback position, Notre Dame might finally return to being a national contender again. The No. 11 recruiting class has the second most five-star recruits with three, and also boast six four-star recruits entering the Irish program next season.

Alabama Crimson Tide

4 of 5

You would have been shocked if the Crimson Tide was not included on a list of teams that will be loaded coming into a new season, but here is Nick Saban and his boys from Tuscaloosa.

Alabama will bring in the third best class of recruits next season with one five-star and nine four-star recruits that will help set up another Game of the Century against LSU in 2012.

LSU Tigers

5 of 5

While the Tigers aren’t in the top spot of the recruiting rankings coming into 2012, LSU has plenty of talent on the team right now to be scary. When you add the projected eighth best 2012 class, the Tigers will be downright frightening when they take the field next season.
