BCS Rankings: Most Disappointing Finishes in College Football

Ryan RudnanskyDec 4, 2011

You can have a solid season, but if you lose bad in the final week of college football's season, you don't exactly feel peachy headed into bowl games.

In Week 14 of the college football season, right before the final BCS rankings were released, three teams in particular ended the regular season on a down note.

Here are the three most disappointing finishes of the year.

3. Georgia (10-3)

Headed into Georgia's showdown with No. 1 LSU in the SEC Championship game, there were some who believed the Bulldogs' offense and improved defense would make it a game.

But this was no game when all was said and done.

Georgia led LSU, 10-7, at the half, eying an upset, but ended up getting outscored, 35-0, in the second half.

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray had a rough game, going 16-of-40 for 163 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, his second pick going for a touchdown on the other side of the ball.

On top of this, Georgia allowed LSU to rush for 207 yards.

2. Houston (12-1)

Houston was 12-0 headed into the final game of its regular season, and it appeared nothing stood in the Cougars' way of claiming a spot in the Sugar Bowl.

But by the end of Week 14, Houston had lost to then-No. 24 Southern Miss, 49-28.

Houston quarterback Case Keenum wasn't his usual spectacular self and the loss dropped Houston out of a BCS bowl.

1. Oklahoma (9-3)

For a team ranked No. 1 in the country headed into this season, Oklahoma sure disappointed.

After losses against unranked Texas Tech and Baylor, Oklahoma simply lied down in Week 14 against in-state rival Oklahoma State.

I expected Oklahoma to lose this game, but I certainly didn't expect a 44-10 drubbing.

Quarterback Landry Jones had an underwhelming performance, with two interceptions, and the disappointing defense allowed the Cowboys to rush for 278 yards.

So much for playing for pride.
