BCS Rankings: 5 Reasons Why Alabama Should Stay No. 2 in the Polls
The regular season just ended last night, but the heated debate of who should be No. 2 has been going on for weeks now.
The debate between Oklahoma St. and Alabama for No. 2 has its fair share of arguments on both sides of the ball.
Both teams appear relatively equal, and a case can be made for both teams.
Here are five reasons why Alabama should stay No. 2 when the final BCS rankings come out.
They Lost to LSU
1 of 5The Crimson Tide have lost one game all season, and that is to the best team in the country.
LSU only beat them 9-6, so Alabama can clearly hang with the best.
Even if they have already played, if Alabama has the best credentials, then they deserve to go.
They Play in the SEC
2 of 5The SEC is clearly the best conference in football. Alabama made it through the entire SEC season having only lost one game to LSU.
Finishing second in the best conference in the land does not necessarily mean they are ineligible to play in the national championship.
In fact, in this case, it means they are the best team in the country not named LSU.
The Voters Know
3 of 5While the computers may have Oklahoma St. at No. 2, the voters have Alabama strongly entrenched as their No. 2 team in the country.
The voters and writers are the people who watch the games and know who is the best team in the country, with an unbiased opinion.
Alabama is also No. 2 in the Coaches' poll and the Harris poll.
Therefore, their votes should not be taken lightly.
We Want a Rematch
4 of 5With how close the first game was, there is no telling if a team like Oklahoma St. could hang with LSU like Alabama did.
One thing that is certain is we know Alabama can hang with LSU, no problem.
Why not give them another shot, because we know they can do it again?
It looks like the best matchup the BCS can offer its fans.
Body of Work
5 of 5Alabama has not only beaten everyone on their schedule with the exception of LSU, but they have dominated all of their opponents.
Teams with great offenses have been completely shut down by the Crimson Tide, and Alabama can also put some points on the board.
They challenged themselves out of conference with Penn St. and beat everyone the SEC had to offer until running into LSU.
