BCS Bowl Games: Why Oklahoma St. vs. LSU Is the Game Everybody Wants To See

Alex CallosDec 4, 2011

After an impressive showing last night by Oklahoma State, talks are swirling as to who will play LSU for the national championship.

Alabama is currently ranked No. 2, but Oklahoma St. is knocking on the door at No. 3 in the BCS rankings.

The Cowboys dismantled in-state rival Oklahoma, 44-10, in dominating fashion, making a statement in front of a national television audience.

While there was some debate earlier in the week, clamoring for Oklahoma State, the consensus was that Alabama was the better team.

With the showing by Oklahoma St. last night, those opinions may have changed.

LSU and Alabama have already played and so it's time for someone else to have a shot.

Here are five reasons why Oklahoma St. and LSU is the game everyone wants to see.

Better Resume

1 of 5

While some may claim Alabama is the second best team in the country, the fact is, Oklahoma St. has a much better resume.

Remember, it is not judged by who the losses were against, but who the wins were over.

The Cowboys are 5-0 against the Top 25, while Alabama is only 2-1.

Seven of the 11 wins by Oklahoma St. are against Top 50.

As far as strength of schedule goes, Oklahoma St. was ranked No. 10 heading into their game with Oklahoma, where Alabama was rated No. 38.

OSU has played and beaten much better teams than Alabama.

Shouldn't that be enough?

They Are the Better Team

2 of 5

The Oklahoma St. offense is without question the best in the country and while the defense is suspect, they force more turnovers than anybody in the nation.

At over 49 points a game, the Cowboys offense is high-flying and explosive. The 61st ranked defense is middle of the pack, but does their job.

Put them up against the LSU defense and they are certain to put up points and test the Tigers defense more than anybody else has.

It would certainly be a game for the ages.

Alabama Already Had Their Shot

3 of 5

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide already lost at home against LSU earlier in the season, so why in the world do they deserve a second shot.

It is time to get somebody else a chance.

Maybe somebody who can put a few points on the board and actually make for an interesting game.

We will never know how good Oklahoma St. is until we give them a shot against LSU.

Why should they not get one, but Alabama gets two?

We Want Points

4 of 5

While a 9-6 national championship final score would be fine and dandy, a 36-35 shootout would be much more entertaining for everybody involved.

Put Oklahoma St. in the game and that is likely to happen.

No defense has been able to hold them under 30 points all season and with the way they force turnovers on defense, LSU would have trouble doing that also.

Wide receiver Justin Blackmon going against the talented LSU secondary would be a matchup to look out for.

Chicks dig the long ball, so they probably dig points also, right?

Oklahoma St. Won Their Conference

5 of 5

Most logical thinkers tend to agree that if a team does not win the division of the conference they are in, they do not deserve to play for the national championship.

Alabama did not even win the west division of the SEC and Oklahoma St. won the Big 12 by two games.

Oklahoma St. is much more deserving because they won their conference, something the Crimson Tide failed to do.
