Oregon Bowl Predictions: The Ducks Will Beat Any Big Ten Team in the Rose Bowl

Danny FlynnDec 3, 2011

Oregon is now headed to its third straight BCS bowl game after taking care of business against UCLA last night in the first ever Pac-12 championship game.

Obviously, coach Chip Kelly must be doing something right if he’s averaging a conference championship and a BCS bowl berth every season.

Kelly has done a remarkable job, coming in and elevating the Ducks and turning them into a consistent player on the national college football scene.

Oregon’s offense has been rolling since Kelly took over, and the Ducks went into this weekend ranked third in the nation in scoring offense and sixth in total offense, averaging 46 points and 510 yards per game.

With some type of combination of the dangerous offensive foursome of QB Darron Thomas, RB LaMichael James, RB Kenjon Barner and RB De’Anthony Thomas always lining up in the backfield, it’s pretty clear why the Ducks have been able to have so much offensive success once again this year.

After running through the Pac-12 and finishing 11-2, the Ducks will now turn their attention towards their goal of finally winning a BCS bowl game, something they haven’t done the past two seasons.

Oregon got outplayed by Terrelle Pryor and the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl back in the 2009 season, and they came up short in the national title game against Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers last year.

Now, the Ducks could have to get ready for another dangerous signal-caller if QB Russell Wilson and the Wisconsin Badgers prevail over Michigan State in the Big Ten title game tonight.

The Badgers have one of the most powerful and productive offenses in the country, with Wilson and fellow backfield mate, Heisman candidate RB Montee Ball, leading the way.

It will either be Wilson, Ball and the rest of Wisconsin’s big, strong offense, or it will be Michigan State and its Top 10 defense making the trip out to Pasadena.

Either way, the Ducks are going to have to prepare for a battle on January 2.

Still, Oregon would enter the game as the favorite against either of those potential opponents, and for good reason.

When the Ducks are clicking on offense, there aren’t many teams in college football that can stop them, and you can bet that Kelly will have his group ready for whoever makes the trip out to Pasadena to face them.

Saying the Ducks are due for a BCS win may be a little cliche, but you can just tell from one look at this team that they’re a hungry bunch, and they’ll be ready to snack on whichever Big Ten foe comes out west to face them.
