Dwight Howard: Staying in Orlando Is Best Option for Everyone Involved

Michael DixonDec 1, 2011

Where will Dwight Howard end up? He's certainly a big enough name that anyone who has the money and/or the talent to make the trade would be foolish to not want him.

Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles speculated on the possibility that Howard would end up in Los Angeles, either with the Lakers or Clippers.

Brett David Roberts of Yahoo! Sports also speculated that Howard could end up in New Jersey

But through all of this, it's hard to avoid one question: What exactly is wrong with Orlando?

Right now, they don't have the pieces in place to win a championship, but that's something that could easily change if Howard could talk Chris Paul or Deron Williams into coming to Orlando with him. Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel explored those trade possibilities.

Maybe I am missing something, but Orlando seems like a pretty good destination. The state of Florida has great tax laws, especially on property. It's a warm weather location.

No, it's not a big market when compared to places like Los Angeles, New York or even Miami, but that doesn't matter. A guard like Williams or Paul, coupled with a big man of Howard, and the pieces are in place to win.

It's not too crazy. The Magic have won 50 or more games in each of the last four seasons. They certainly don't lack the talent around Howard right now.

So, as Markazi said, while it seems like Howard will be gone from Orlando by the trade deadline, all parties need to take a step back.

The Magic don't need to make this trade, and Howard can attract big-name free agents to come in and play with him as well as they can persuade him to leave.

There are no real drawbacks here.

Obviously, if the Magic feel that their chances at success are better without Howard, then they need to move him. But it's hard to imagine a scenario where their best chance at success doesn't include Howard.
