Bulls Rumors: Chicago Needs To Pass on Caron Butler and Target a Shooting Guard
The Chicago Bulls should not return the interest Caron Butler is showing them.
Yahoo! Sports reported hearing from "league sources" that Butler "privately considers the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls as his two most preferred destinations."
Butler struggled with injuries last season, as he played in just 29 games and missed the Mavericks' postseason run. In those 29 games he averaged 15 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Those numbers are slightly down from his career numbers of 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Anyway you look at it, Butler is a productive player.
Why Bulls Should Stay Away
Butler would be a valuable addition to any team. He would also be a costly one. Caron is going to demand big dollars, and those are big dollars the Bulls need to use elsewhere.
Chicago is set at the small forward position with Luol Deng.
His career numbers are almost identical to Butler's and they were better last season.
Adding Butler would be a luxury and not a necessity. This is something the Bulls cannot afford since they have a need they need to address.
What They Should Do Instead
The Bulls need to add a shooting guard. The position was an albatross last year, and it killed them in the postseason.
Keith Bogans and Kyle Korver split time there last season, and neither player is the answer. Bogans is a quality guy to bring off the bench, but he offers no offense. Korver is a great shooter and that is it.
The Bulls must add someone next to Rose to help take the scoring and ball-handling load off of the league's MVP.
Will Butler End Up a Bull?
No, he will not. The Bulls aren't going to break the bank for a player they don't absolutely need, and Butler is going to get a big payday somewhere.
