LeBron's Flag Football Classic Video: Watch King James Mock Plaxico Burress
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson was fined $10,000 for a touchdown dance in which he pantomimed New York Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress shooting himself in the leg.
While most thought it was classless, Miami Heat star LeBron James was clearly impressed.
After a scoring a touchdown in a flag football game at the University of Akron against Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant's team, James did the dance himself.
Seeing as though it was simply a friendly flag football game, the dance won't be as highly criticized as it was when Johnson did it, but it was still a curious decision by James.
I personally felt Johnson's dance was hilarious, but the overwhelming majority of observers seemed to find it offensive.
Burress served nearly two years in prison after an incident at a New York nightclub in which he inadvertently shot himself in the leg with an unlicensed gun he was carrying. The former New York Giant returned to the NFL this season as a member of the Jets, but his past clearly hasn't been forgotten.
While the average person might not think much of LeBron's celebration, there is no question that he is the most ridiculed player in the entire NBA. I'm sure he is fully aware of that, but he decided to do something that would likely cause people to dislike him even more.
Again, the dance isn't something that bothers me personally, but there are plenty of people who find it disrespectful to poke fun at the misfortune of others.
Burress was very nonchalant following Johnson's celebration and went so far as to praise Johnson as a player. With that in mind, it is unlikely that Burress would take any issue with James' recycling of the celebration.
Perhaps Burress could break out a little touchdown dance of his own if he scores this weekend against the Washington Redskins. In fact, he could make fun of Johnson's late-game drop against the Jets and LeBron's failure to win championships with the same celebration.
He'll simply need to put his hands on his throat and pretend to be choking. Either that or he could just show LeBron his Super Bowl XLII ring.
Either way, it would speak volumes.
