NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks Must Give Everything for Chris Paul

T.J. McaloonNov 30, 2011

The New York Knicks tried to make a deal for LeBron James during last year’s NBA offseason. They failed and had to settle for Amar'e Stoudemire and a trade for Carmelo Anthony during the season. Now, the Knicks have a chance at landing the big prize in this year's offseason by adding New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul

The Knicks need the point guard to fill out their own version of “The Big Three.” to compete with the Miami Heat’s Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh

Miami’s Big Three led them to within two games of the NBA Championship last year, while the Knicks' big two got them a first-round playoff exit.

Adding Paul would not only be the third piece to equal the Heat, but it would make them better than Miami’s Big Three.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the New Orleans point guard had a list of two teams he wanted to be traded to.

"

Back in July, Chris Paul put out a wish list of teams he would like the Hornets to trade him to, according to Broussard.

Number two on the list? The Orlando Magic.

Number one?

The New York Knicks.

The ideal situation, according to Broussard's sources, would be if Paul could join forces with Carmelo Anthony(notes) and Amare Stoudemire(notes) in New York and compete with the Miami Heat's Big Three.

"

Even Paul has hinted that he wants to team up with Anthony and Stoudemire in New York. According to the New York Post:

"

According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, "We'll form our own Big 3," Paul allegedly said.

"

The one thing that held Miami back from taking down the Dallas Mavericks during the NBA Finals was their lack of a point guard. With Dallas having the better point guard in the series, it gave the Heat nightmares when trying to match up at that position.

Paul gives the Knicks an elite-level point guard that can open up the floor for Anthony and Stoudemire. Having the better point guard in New York’s Big Three would be the tipping point in their rivalry.

If the Knicks want to compete in the Eastern Conference with the Heat and the Bulls, they have to make this move.

If they do not, they will continue to be a good team that continues to fail in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.
