SEC Championship Game: What are the Odds of Georgia-LSU Rematch in 2012?
The Georgia Bulldogs take on the undefeated LSU Tigers in this year's SEC Championship Game, which should be the best game of the weekend. The outcome will have a huge impact on the BCS bowls including the National Championship and sugar bowl.
Anytime you get two top SEC teams together you know it's going to be a dogfight, and the winner is going to have to earn their victory.
But what are the chances that these two teams meet again in the SEC Championship next year?
Georgia is in great shape heading into next year. They have probably the top quarterback in the conference returning in Aaron Murray, who has had a very impressive season. They also have speedster running back Isaiah Crowell. Those two alone make for a dangerous offense.
The offensive line is going to need to fill in a few holes, but the defense could return every one of their starters expect for one. That includes linebacker Jarvis Jones, who has 13.5 sacks on the year.
Georgia is in good hands heading into next season.
LSU can return majority of their offense but will have to find a new quarterback, as Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson will be gone after this season. Zach Mettenberger has all of the tools to be successful, but his immaturity and lack of experience could force the Tigers to look elsewhere.
Only six defensive starters will likely return to this fantastic unit, and that includes Tyrann Mathieu, but players like Mo Claiborne and Ryan Baker will not. Les Miles has had a great defense every year at LSU, and with a great recruiting class there should be little issues on that side of the ball.
There's really no question as to if these teams can make it back to the SEC Championship Game. Both teams have the coaches and the talent in place.
The problem involves the other schools in the SEC. Alabama isn't going anywhere and has as good of a shot to win the SEC West as anyone. Arkansas is in the same boat with Tyler Wilson and Knile Davis returning.
Auburn will be a lot better next season with a young and talented team. You can also count on Florida to improve as Will Muschamp and Charlie Weis have had a season under their belt. Tennessee is another school that is loaded with young talent that just needs to develop.
The SEC is a conference where nothing comes easy on the football side of things. Nearly every team is talented enough to compete with the next team.
So, you're better off just flipping a coin to deciding who will be in the SEC Championship Game in 2012.
