Week 14 College Football Predictions: Bedlam Rivalry Will Grab Weekend Spotlight

Tim DanielsNov 30, 2011

Even though it isn't an official conference championship game, the Big 12 title will be on the line when Bedlam Series rivals Oklahoma State and Oklahoma face off on Saturday night. The Cowboys currently find themselves third in the BCS standings, while the Sooners are slotted 10th.

When you consider the history between the two schools, what's at stake and the potential for a shootout, it could very well turn out to be the best football game all weekend.

The Sooners have won eight straight games, stretching their all-time series lead to 82-16-7. And only three of those games were separated by one score or less, so it's been a pretty one-sided battle lately.

Oklahoma State enters this season's game as three-point favorites, so the streak is definitely in jeopardy. Especially since Oklahoma lost star receiver Ryan Broyles to injury a couple weeks ago, taking a major playmaker away from quarterback Landry Jones.

Players like Kenny Stills and Jaz Reynolds, who returns from suspension, will need to step up if Oklahoma's offense is going to keep up with the triumvirate of Brandon Weeden, Joseph Randle and Justin Blackmon.

Weeden is completing an astonishing 73 percent of his passes and should really be receiving more consideration in the Heisman race. Even in the team's only loss, he threw for nearly 500 yards and three touchdowns to give them a fighter's chance until an overtime tipped-ball interception.

Both rosters are brimming with potential NFL players, which should ensure the level of play is high. That's perhaps the most crucial thing when it comes to creating an instant classic.

The winner will get an automatic BCS bid, and there's still an outside chance Oklahoma State could climb into the title game with a win and an LSU loss.

Don't think Oklahoma doesn't understand that. The Sooners would love nothing more than to crush their biggest rival's dreams while also earning themselves a marquee bowl game in the process.

It's a game with seemingly endless storylines and, maybe more importantly, whichever team comes out on top will have bragging rights for another year.

That's what sports are all about.

Prediction: Cowboys 35, Sooners 34
