BCS Bowl Projections: Kansas State and Top Teams That Will Miss out on BCS Bowls
Here's a look at three very good college football teams that won't get an at-large BCS bowl bid this year.
Kansas State Wildcats
After Oklahoma State, it's a good bet that the Big-12 will get one of the BCS at-large bids. I mean, six of the 19 teams are currently ranked.
All-in-all, it's a pretty good conference.
That would make Oklahoma and Kansas State—teams that are tied for second place—the top contenders for a BCS bowl.
Unfortunately for Kansas State, Oklahoma dominated the Wildcats in early November and the Sooners are one spot higher in the BCS standings.
Not only that, the Sooners are a more storied program and it's likely that most bowl committees would choose Oklahoma over Kansas State when given the choice, regardless of how the season has went.
Look for Oklahoma to knock Kansas State to the Cotton Bowl.
Houston Cougars
The Cougars have done everything they can and they've propelled themselves up to No. 6 in the BCS, but that's far from a guarantee.
Houston is first in the nation in points and in passing yards, and I for one, would like to see them in a BCS bowl. I just have a gut feeling, however, they might get snuffed due to a team like Arkansas or Oklahoma.
That's just the way it is.
If we were going strictly by the BCS standings, Houston should grab an at-large spot right after Stanford, so we'll see what happens.
Boise State Broncos
The Broncos continue to get close to glory, but lose at the wrong time. They currently reside at No. 7 in the BCS and as a result would usually stand a chance at getting an at-large bid.
However, they would likely have to get chosen over Houston, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas State as well as some other good teams.
It just won't happen.
