Urban Meyer: Why He Will Surpass His Success at Florida with the Buckeyes
Now that Urban Meyer is officially the head coach of the Ohio State football program, the real question is what fans can expect out of their team
Meyer had amazing success at Florida in only a short time, winning two national championship in just five years as coach.
Can the Buckeyes expect similar results in Columbus?
It may not happen as rapidly, but they will certainly be hoisting up the crystal ball multiple times under their new coach.
In terms of building a program, Florida and Ohio State are incredibly similar. Both are in talent-rich states, both have passionate fanbases and both have athletic departments that will do what is necessary to make a championship-caliber program.
The biggest difference is what conference the Buckeyes are in. There is no secret that the SEC is the best conference in college football—the odds are that the two top teams will be facing each other again for the national championship—so winning it all at Florida is considerably more difficult facing that type of schedule.
While teams like Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State are all on the rise, none of them, with the exception of Michigan, can really ascend to the heights that teams like LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Georgia reach almost on a yearly basis.
There will be plenty of good teams in the Big Ten, but not nearly the number of elite teams that are in the SEC. If Ohio State can take care of business against a few ranked opponents per year and beat Michigan, it will be squarely in the mix for the national championship every year.
If that isn’t increased success, I don’t know what is.
